Bit of sounder porn, schooling pinkies off busso, me and a mate found in his tinny whilst heading in. Picked some real corkers up out of it and a couple of nice dhu' s to go with it. Catch is from two boats on same spot.

Thank you for the sounder pic
I really appreciate people who put up pictures taken on their sounders with an explanation of what the sounder is showing. These pics are a real help to me when trying to understand just what my sounder is showing.

Just a quick question, why is the line at the zero mark on the top of the picture the way it is, I thought if that was the surface of the water it would be "wavy" all the way along not just a small section o0f the top line.

If you draw a line straight
If you draw a line straight down from the zero that is the surface - surface always reads at zero (the coloured lines have nothing to do with the surface as such)
When you go up and down a wave the depth to the bottom is changing so the bottom contour what will vary. (i.e. if on a totally flat bottom and in a 10m swell the bottom will show as going up/down 10m as you ride up/down the swells). As such wave action should always be taken into account when looking at the bottom structure.

...but if the swell was 10m, I probably wouldn't be spending a lot of time looking at my sounder...maybe looking at the bible or pictures of my loved ones instead!

fair point. don't often go out in big swells for obvious reasons but have snapper fished in 20 metre swells some time back here in SA. Was not dangerous at all but have to make the point the swells were along way apart so was more of a gentle roll on that day despite the height (were drifting with another boat and only saw them every 5-6 waves or so when we were both on the top of the wave at the same time). 20m swells closer together a very different kettle of fish and wouldn't even consider heading out....

How far out if you dont mind me asking, just wondering as a few weeks ago we were watching 2 blokes pulling pinkies from water only 1-1.5 meters deep off a little jetty

Dunga we were about 8-9 mile out mate. When the storms are in people have been catching a few from LB around busso. Were they getting large numbers of them? The jetty has produced heaps this year also.

How many of you were there on the tinnie? If only 2, did you go over the limit for demersals? if there were 5 of you must be a real good tinnie.
Are you in the same zone as us in Perth with regards to demersals?

Two Boats
Hey Fuzz,
Firstly a minor correction, you did mention 2 boats, however the so called porn apparently came from your mates TINNIE.
How true, you did mentioned 2 boats in your original post and that was my bad for jumping to conclusions, however when one mentions TINNIES it is reasonable to think perhaps only 2 POB on board, perhaps in future I won't comment and let others ask the questions, as said in my original post, a good day out.
If offended by my post, please accept apology, my interest is fishing for tomorrow, not for me as I am now getting too old, but hopefully there will still be a couple for my Grandsons.

If trying to correct innocent errors
a fair question. 12 fish does look suspicious.
But Totally agree that if you ask on the public side off the forum you should be ready for a face plant. As a long time member have seen many many questions, and only a few where people have been "caught out" doing the wrong thing without knowing it.
Far better to PM. Then if still interested post the correction and explaination on the public forum.
I did also look at this and wonder, but if I wanted to question a PM would have been the correct way.

Yeah mate its chilled down a little haha, great time of year i say, wood fire and live footy on the tv. This photo is of a lowrance hdi7. All settings on auto, should have takn a photo on zoom setting would have looked better.

I too also thought of the repocutions and slight misleading ideas 12 fish might cause, but this is exactly why i stated in the header text Two boats, and this sits above the photo and therefore generally should be read before looking at any photos further down the post?

good catch fuzz! we went out from Windy Harbour on Sunday morning and shit it was cold. We were using plastics and I'm sure that they were freezing up whilst trying to thread them on.

Yes its a PB
We only had the old mans scales which were in lb's and it pulled it to just over 30lb, so about 14+ kg. The old man got one the week before that dragged the scales to 34lb and it was a horse. These both were caught about 3 years ago.
