South West Fishing Comp. What and where would members like?
Submitted by Bluetonic on Tue, 2009-09-15 22:15
A few of us here in the South West have been thinking now for sometime about organising a Fishwrecked fishing comp.
Who would be interested?
When would you like to see it held?
All input is welcome and will be digested. Lets get the ball rolling so you can voice your ideas and we can organise what you want.

Aren't we all over this
Aren't we all over this rain!
At the moment it would be good to get as many thoughts on whats wanted as possible and then decide on the best outcome.
I personally couldn't care less how many different categories we have whether its a section for catch and release, shore base, offshore etc.
We want to organise a South West Fishwrecked event that will cater for all and be fun.

Im in, probably would be
Im in, probably would be awesome a few weeks prior to the start or summer, although, i dont wanna see matto in skimpys nomatter what lol. Maybe it might be different to hold a comp that must consist of a certain amount of members per team, maybe a team comp. Would be different. But either way, i'd be in for sure.
Maybe have a long running comp like swanfish so it gives guys busy during certain times to entertain the idea of participating. Or... Have it at a small area. Would be a challenge for sure to see so many members in same area, like north mole comp lol. Would definately take out the disadvantages the less experianced of not knowing good spots and such. Also a good way to spend time getting to meet others during time there.
Just a thought

I would be keen if work
I would be keen if work doesn't get in the way. Where south west are you thinking Bluetonic. Personally I wouldn't mind offshore but would do land based if the weather wasn't friendly. Some nice areas land and offshore around Dunsbourgh. Hope we get some decent weather before the closures come in.
GO BLUES.

SW Comps
The comp is primarily aimed at members meeting fellow members and fishing. It is a social event. It will be open to anyone who wants to participate. The social events here in the SW have been very popular and a fantastic opportunty for fellow members to meet each other. This is really just a natural progression as we all fish.....
There will be a small entry fee but this is recycled via category prizes so no profit will go to organisers and as usual when we have a social event a fishwrecked donation jar will be available.
It will encompass all aspects of fishing so both landbased and boat. We will organise suitable categories. We could even incorporate a freshwater category if people are interested.
The rules and regulations will be simple. Most likely be the length of each fish species as opposed to individual weight. Strong enphasis on catch and release so looking at brag board length with accompaning photo as proof of catch. If you wish to keep your catch then no problem just observe the fishing regulations, but at this stage we may not weight the fish (still deciding). Don't think anyone will cheat as this is a social comp and well you only cheat yourself......
There may be opportunity for deckies to jump aboard but that decision is the skippers.
All Boats will pass a safety check which is mandatory anyways.......
The first comp, for example, may be at Busselton. This is a good start as there is choice facilities at Geograph Marina and the area also caters for landbased. You can fish freshwater, inshore and offshore, off the marina itself and chase bream etc within the marina. No matter how you fish there is ample habitiat. Best of all good facilities for boats and a Bar for an after fish social drink (promote sensible drinking....). Likewise plenty of accommodation and service options and with the new highway open not far away.
Once we get up and running then we can move around and I would certainly travel south/north.
Most importantly this will be a social event so dont come without a smile
We are looking at starting around mid October (unless this rain doesn't stop)......and yes there will be ample notice by posting a thread on fishwrecked.
Hope you can all attend.

hrm
Maybe we could standardise the FW Exxy comp rules so they could be adapted to comps up and down the coast. Just adjust the fish species. Will do some thinking and see how it can be worked.
Oh yeh, what is this rain thing that you talk of?

There will be numerous comps throughout the year
We are just starting this october.
Once we iron out the comp rules with Adam we will obviously post threads advertising the dates.
Unlike Exmouth and seeing the population is Perth/SW orientated then these comps will be more regular for obvious reasons.
But with Adam we are standardising the comp rules for ease of organisation and the comps will predominatley be aimed/promoted at sustainable fishing. This does not limit anybody keeping lawful bag limits though.
As mentioned these comps are social comps and hopefully the same enthusiasm that transpires in exmouth will avial in the SW comps.

SW Fishing Comps
Great idea and keen to get involved. Will the recent bans influence the timing or will you simply adjust target species etc?
