Southwest fires

Hope everyone stay's safe. The fire is now huge with the township of Harvey now under threat. Only route down south is via the Albany highway so plan ahead people.

People being evac'd...
...by boats from Preston Beach! For the older and/or WW2 buffs on here, sounds like Dunkirk...
Already a lot of property lost, hoping for no casualties...

Southwest fires
DFES site http://www.dfes.wa.gov.au/alerts/Pages/Alert.aspx?ItemId=16110 has the details.
Looking NE and E from Eaton there is considerable smoke that seems to be travelling south.
And the Perth BOM radar shows the smoke

Poor bastards, they have been trying to catch an arsonist(s) for the past few weeks in the area with Donnybrook last hit. Raging easterlies all morning with the predicted drop off not happening, ruined my plan to head wide after the crays

I was crabbing down at Herron Point on Tuesday evening when the storm was rumbling along the scarp. Lightning strike is a very probable cause.
Side note got my 10 in an hour of walking. Lots just undersized.

Sounds grim, ABC are saying the pub, police station, the train station and several homes have bee razed. Quite a number of people trapped on the oval too.

Yarloop
I was at Kmart at Eaton yesterday afternoon and a lady came in to exchange some kiddies clothes. She and kids
were from Yarloop and were directed to go to Harvey ASAP with what they had on.
With Harvey in danger they were told to go to Australind.
I wished her all the best.
The look of desperation, shock and helplessness is something I never want to see again and to see comments about toasting marshmallows followed with haha is another thing I never want to see again.

I think you completely have the wrong end of the stick here groverwa, I understand that tensions are running high for us here in the SW (not sure if you are from here) but barneyboy has been anything but like what you have portrayed. If anything (haven’t personally met the guy but) he has been a big contributor to our community & in particular the youngsters.
We don’t know really know what each other has experienced in life but as Aussies black humour is a way of coping with trauma & tragedy, I hope you can see that & perhaps back off.
Cheers

Shocking what's happened, to
Shocking what's happened, to think many of us would have been whining about the heat yesterday, imagine what those on the front line would have endured, and still are.
As gillyL said "If there's anyway I can help a fellow member" affected.
Was thinking about this last night and this morning when waking up.
No doubt there's gunna be fishwrecked members affected by this, perhaps not only lost their home but also their boat, all gear etc.
Whilst insurance should cover it I'm wondering if there's someway we as fishwrecked members can help out, setup an account to donate some funds, donate any gear rarley used etc?

out of the window down Mandurah way. Had a nice little storm (but with lightning :-( ) so hoping some of the rain heads down that way. Feeling for the close neighbours in Lake Clifton etc.

Word coming out about some wankers on motor bikes going in and looting houses as people leave. I really hope they are found and dropped into the fire from a great height. That's totally uncalled for.

He has put his horses in my place because all his fences are burnt down! The fire brigade let my dogs out as they would have been burnt and they have now taken off. Nothing I can do about that but they won't let me in to find them or look after my house! Just lucky I've got a nice enough neighbour. Even though his place has burnt down he offered to look after mine

4 more have popped up from
4 more have popped up from lightening strikes in the last hour or so but the one at Karnup near Baldivis is the biggest and moving west pretty fast towards the freeway.
Ive been told that the freeway has been closed southbouth from the armadale turnoff so if anyone is heading that way it would pay to check.
Also if anyone has horses and a spare float there are alot of people needing help to evacuate horses.

Baldivis fire
Saw the lightning flash from sisters place in Baldivis and spotted a firey watertanker with lights and sirens about ten minutes later heading over to the column of smoke, whithin ten minutes the amount of smoke had more than doubled
Strong smell of smoke in the air this morning
Can't wait to get back up home away from all the fires and hot days

Yarloop workshops
What tragic loss, I believe it was the workshops for the largest private railways owned in WA. I have been through there a couple of times on the way down or back from Bunbury. A lot of history lost to the new generations coming up, some of the machinery in the workshops brought back a few memories of when I first started my apprenticeship. Hope the missing 3 people turn up all ok.

Just an idea
Perhaps fellow Fishwrecked members may consider donating any gear they no longer use or value to those who may have lost all of theirs in this terrible situation. It maybe fishing gear or anything really I guess. The influx of Harvey number plated vehicles in Eaton is a clear indication of how many are currently displaced. Some may scoff at donating fishing gear but when your world has been turned upside down and you've lost perhaps everything fishing is a great leveler on the sanity stakes... I always feel better during the outing and for sometime afterward. Anyway just a thought but it's a cool way to show solidarity to fellow West Aussies and fishers to boot.

Im in
I have a new 2500 combo which I was gonna use for Bream fishing. More than happy to give to a fellow FW member who has lost their fishing gear, due to the fires. Might even bring back smiles on a little kids face..
I'll include a small tackle box with sinkers, hooks etc to get them going.

I just got home this
I just got home this morning! We won't have power for about 3-4 weeks lines are down everywhere, most people would need a generator to keep all the food cold and freezers working! I've already lent one to a neighbour alomg with an engel. I was just lucky that when I put the new transducer in that I syphoned all the fuel out into 44 gallon drums and didn't worry about putting it back in the boat. So if anyone one on here knows anyone down here that is in urgent need for fuel for generators let me know I'm about 6km out of yarloop
