I dont see how you would

Wed, 2012-11-28 21:35

I dont see how you would expect to catch anything else but demersals in 20m depth?? If you had caught one Dhu surely you would move spots?

You may have released it but would it have made a 100% recovery and not die from barotrauma?

not a personal attack, just my thoughts.

Dhuies swam off fine,

Wed, 2012-11-28 21:52

Hey Notorious

Both fish showed no signs of Barotrauma from 20 mtrs and both swam off with out a hitch after a quick pic. But if they had have been brought up from 50 mtrs then there may have been a few issues with the barotrauma..

for one we fish reasonably light in 20mtr range and 2 we dont skull drag our fish and besides on that particular ground we were chasing sambos as we have caught them there many times before...

I say you stick to your straight hooks and leave the fishing to the fishermen...  not a personal attack, just my thoughts   ;-)

I too am a fisherman with

I too am a fisherman with over 20years of experience ;) its just that the rods are gathering dust since I started spearfishing 4 years ago.

What I'm trying to illustrate, which I am certain you know, is that since there is a demersal ban applicable to all the fish shouldnt be caught at all.

I am not convinced of the recovery rates of fish thats are caught and released......combined with handling the fish with ones hands and thus removing the protective slime from the scales. I like the Northbridge analogy in terms of what I'm trying to say.

Bit like goin out to

Thu, 2012-11-29 13:10

Bit like goin out to Northbrige on the piss when your married. Although the original intention is to just go out and have a good time, its highly likely your guna end up nailin some drunken slut which although is fun, its against the rules. Solution, dont go to Northbridge and you wont break any rules, but if you do happen to do so and you cross the line, dont tell anyone about it.......

Now that is good analogy.....and yep I woulda kept my trap shut on catching anything that looks like a demersal during the ban.

Yep,

I wonder how long it will take before it's not just paternoster rigs that are considered 'targetting demersals'.
