My brother has had a mares

Mon, 2008-12-01 20:32

My brother has had a mares cyrano 1100 and wouldn't recommend anything else. Must be 10yrs since it had a service, you just can't do that with jelly guns.

He has an 1100, but had to cut his shafts a little.

Rob Allen in jelly or Mares Cyrano 1100 in gas or nothing, don;t even bother with cheaper brands.

There is an afcer market kit for the cyrano that is supposed to really be good, he is getting one soon, will report back.

I've got a RA and I think

Mon, 2008-12-01 22:59

I've got a RA and I think it's great but never really used anything else so don't really have much to compare it to. Got a 1000 but if I was to buy again I'd probably go a 1100 or maybe even 1200 for that bit of extra power and range namely for bluebone.

I've used a pneumatic gun before but didn't really like it due to the fact that you need to carry something to load it with. I also think that railed rubber guns are more accurate than pneumatic guns and have less recoil from my experience.

Any of the South African guns should see you right, I've also heard really good things about the Pelaj guns made here in OZ.

What brand of pnuematic was

Tue, 2008-12-02 07:51

What brand of pnuematic was that?

The Mares Cyrano, you don't carry anything to load it so far as I get it. You just push the spear back down the barrel, it holds it's pressure.

Cam's gets a top up pump every few trips, but that is because he hasn't serviced it in 10yrs and it needs a new o-ring.

The RA's are all really good

Tue, 2008-12-02 08:21

The RA's are all really good guns but do cost a bit.

I have just got a new double rubber pelaj gun but havent been able to get out and give it a crack yet. Mate has one the same and is real good for Bluebone, trout etc.

What are you going to be chasing Sam cos that can have a lot to do with it

Reef

Tue, 2008-12-02 08:40

I've got the RA 1000mm Tuna which is great for reef work around ledges, bombies etc. If you find a trout under a ledge its just a matter of dropping off one rubber and then kapow.

Might look at getting something a bit longer for those cautious fish (bigger blues) next year, not sure.

Pnuematic's...

Tue, 2008-12-02 08:50

G'day guys

Pretty keen on getting a mares cyrano but just chasing info on loading. I've read that you need to carry something to load it but is this true for all pnuematic's. Also powerwise, how do they rate in comparison to a jelly gun?

Cheers Mick

Na you just push the spear into the muzzle by hand. No idea about how they compare to jelly guns, never used one.

I use to use a 1.2 jelly

Tue, 2008-12-02 10:03

I use to use a 1.2 jelly job, can't remember what t was, but I keep thinking Scubapro (note this was 25 years ago!).

I preferred it to the pneumatics.  Too many bubbles that scared everything else away.  Don't know if it's any different now.  Also having multiple bands, made it easy to adjust power.

mick

ive got a 1100 cyrano and it does the job nicely for me when chasin blues n trout up north... in regards to loading they do supply you with a small T shaped peice that tucks under the handle for loading other wise u just hold the spear by hand makin sure you have a nice tight grip... mines 3yrs old and i aint re-charged it or serviced it yet and its still smoking some good fish... not sure on the range and accuracy difference as i havent had a railgun before waiting for mine on laybuy... horses for courses bit of personal preference i think... if u know someone with either of the guns you're looking for take them for a shot... the only way you will know for sure which one you feel more comfortable with IMO

Cheers Poddy

Not sure if were thinking along the same lines John, almost look like a bluey but with a thinner head and physically longer body, pretty much the same colours as a bluey aswell with a little more faded pink to them...

and the barstads are bloody hard to shoot!

The one i have shot have had same flesh as blueys and taste just as nice..

BJ's on the money Sam, parroty's are a piece of piss. I don't bother shooting them as I find the flesh very soft (extremely white though) and as they are mainly weed eaters /  coral eaters / vegies they stink to high hell. Bluies are much more of a challenge!

Three of guns up for grabs

Thu, 2008-12-11 12:06

With 8 guns in the shed I figure I can let some go

Have a 900 Cressi pneumatic up for grabs. Gun is in great condition and comes with three shafts, two of which are spring steel. Gun has all the riggings, pump and loader - Chasing $300

The second is a 900 Esclapes (rubber gun) which is in great condition - Chasing $175.

The third is not flash but is a tried and proven undersea 1 metre long. Great gun to keep on the boat just in case. Chasing $100

All guns are rigged and read for action.

I live in Atwell so PM me if interested.
