Special Request - Help me find some Slimy Mackarel's for a dying Old Lady - Perth

G'Day Guys. I have an Uncle who is on the hunt atm for Slimy Mackarels atm.

He has a close elderly friend who is soon passing away and she wishes to have some Slimy Mackarel before she passes away as that is her favourite fish.

If anyone can help out with where to catch them, where you have caught them before, anything at all where to find these fish, it would be much appreciated!

Only spot I have tried so far that I have caught them before is right off teh end of South Mole, early morning before the sun comes up, no luck :(

I used to see them off the Ammo Jetty (Woodman Point) and around E Shed but have not seen them for years!

They have been a few among the scalies down there. Try in the afternoon after 4pm.

+1 for ammo

Wed, 2010-10-20 11:28

In the arvo I saw an older man getting through the wall of scalies with very light line and no weight or anything, just a red long shank (looked like a size 6) with the tiniest bit of bait....

he was going for scalies with a sabiki on another rod, and every 5 minutes the other line would go tight and bam - slimy. I have tried this technique with little success... so I'm assuming there's more to it than I have already described.

good luck.

Like others have said try

Like others have said try the ammo dump, mash up mulies or scalies for burley and then use baitcast tiny strip baits on ultra light line, cats out and let the bait sink until just out of sight feeding out line as you do so, when the slack in your line goes tight put the pressure on and hopefully you have a slimy. Have not seen them in the numbers we used to for years now, when they used to run of the Rockingham jettys it was a sure sign Sharks or Mulloway would be about after dark.

you can buy them as bait from good tackle shops, so its a pretty good bet a decent seafood shop should have some.

do the ring-around for kailis, seafresh, sealanes, etc.

CBH jetty

Can you still get access to the CBH jetty down in the sound. Usually when they are loading ships and the weather is a bit shitty is best.
