What sort of budget are you looking at Jas?

Spheros with Stella upgrades

Spheros with Stella upgrades and your getting close to the price of the Saragosa, just go the Saragosa and be done with it.

As for rods check out the Ozflex range (designed by a WA bloke) that have models purpose built for what your about to do, or even the 10 ft Penn Spinfisher big game surf rods, both are well priced and will handle most of what your looking at targeting without hurting your wallet too much.

For more info pm me.

Shimano Stradic 6000/8000FI,

Shimano Stradic 6000/8000FI, Banax Si5000/7000 or the GT5000W, Penn 750/850/950SSM, Ryobi Safari Metal Royal 5000 (if you can stretch it to $400).

IMO the old Spheros is a great reel without the mods. Adam Gallash still uses his and have trashed it for a good 3-4yrs now. All he's done to the reel was just replace the bushing on the main gear to a bearing. I dont see the need for all these upgrades if the reel is doing just fine.

I'd go the spheros over a SSM, more reliable.
