new to fishing in Aus

Hi all,

just a self intro to all fish-o out there. I am otoshi, and have just started out fishing in perth. armed with light gears and 4lb line, did a couple of sat on the jetty infront of the sailing club in rockingham with zero results. was wondering if any kind soul would have any advice? rigs, bait, location or even tide to fish would always be welcome. Thank you.

of the Swan River except some dilapidated suburbs - try your local tackle shop for some tips and stay tuned to this post as you are bound to get some good advice - try the North Mole at Fremantle harbour or the Mosman Park jetty.

Welcome Otoshi

Welcome to the site. Why don't you give the rock walls in Cockburn Sound a try. Always a chance for a snapper. Try a paternoster rig with either squid or mulies as bait.

You might battle with the 4lb line if

you hook a decent snapper. I would suggest you will need a gaff if you are going to fish that light from any of the rocks and want to catch something decent. You will also need a heavy duty leader in case the fish tries to take you into the rocks.
Whether a 7 fot rod will handle it, it really depends on the rod. You would need something with a bit of grunt to steer the fish away from any obstacles.

If you look on Google Earth you will see a Groyne wall starting just north of the Australian Marine Complex. I have heard that god snapper can be caught if you cast towards the jetty which sits opposite where the wall starts.(Colin 1 - Co-founding member of the prestigious Colin Club)

Just start with Herring and Gardies from the North Mole Kiosk. Plenty of the buggers. Just use a blob float, lots of burley and bits of prawn for bait. Taste great too.

Also, the fishing of the rock walls is a game of patience and there are lots of hours between really good fish.  If you put in the time, you will be rewarded eventually. :)

Welcome to fishwrecked. :)
