Braided over a core?

By double braided you mean braided over an internal core?

http://www.neropes.com/splice/default.htm

Two points are worth mentioning.

1.) Ensure you size the eye of the splice carefully - not to big or small

2.) Make sure you taper the tail of the inner core, which gets buried inside the rope in the last step of forming the splice. Without an adequate taper, the rope will be too thick to feed evenly through sheaves / pulleys / fairleades / hawsepipes and there will not be a smooth transition from the eye to the main rope.

Braided Rope Splicing is as tough as it gets!

Hopefully those links might help.

You have the right fid for the job?

Thats most of the battle, having the right tool - did you get the right Fid from the supplier of the braided core rope?
