Splicing Transducer (p66 5 pin-->lowrance 7 pin)

Hey guys,
Has anyone spliced a transducer before?
I have just bought a P66 that has a 5 pin on it at the moment and I want to put a 7 pin Lowrance fitting onto it. I'm aware that I can buy an adapter but thought i could possibly just splice something that I already have.
Any tips or things i should be aware of?

if you're handy with a
if you're handy with a soldering iron give it a go. Don't bother with adapters. Just look up the relevant wiring diagrams first. Heatshrink all connections. Done a few, never any issues
