Squid rod for 2.5s and under.

Hey all.

Just wondering if there is a squidding rod that i can get local for smaller sized squid jigs say 2.5s and under. my budget is around the 250 at most. Ill most likely be matching it with a stradic 1000FI.

Is there any rods to suit those needs? ive used my egi force with smaller jigs but i would like a lighter model to use small jigs when i can.

Cheers Danno

Feeling shaft!

Hey danno,

having used most on the market I would save your pennies and just get the right one for the job. Yamashita make a specific light egi rod. It is called a "feeling shaft" 7 footer. It says max egi 2.2 but will handle the 2.5. It is perfect for the job. It handles most bream lures also. Yamashita  has a specific dvd just on light egi and I can tell you the technique kicks ass in the river and on shy IKa. I can get you a free copy if you like. Cam

I am using the Whizzer's jive 9ft for up to size 4 and casting a long way. It has Titanium K guides and the Feeling shaft for the 2.5 and under. As for 2.5 to 3.5 I have been using all sorts. If I had some spare coin I'd go the 8'3" Whizzers jive but for now it will be the Lox egi mostly. They are doing a lighter version for our needs which is available shortly. Yes I enjoy squidding.

    Water's been a bit warm

Water's been a bit warm for LB Squid. A few babies around Freshwater Bay. When I say babies I mean as long as your thumb. There are a few Cuttlies and a couple of occy but most went to deeper water away from shore. Give it a few weeks and we should see some more action. Light egi is your best chance LB as the shy Ika are taking tiny bait fish off the surface. Always worth a crack. Take some placcies if you head to Freshwater Bay as the little Sambos are hanging around and will give you a run. As for prices I'll let you check around mate. Good luck.
