Staal Lover,Makros and Hlokk's Onslow

Well the drive up was good! Left Perth at 12noon Sat and arrived in Onslow 6.30am Sun!

After setting up camp just did some flicking around the rocks near the CP.

The next day was a bit blowy but being told it was going to be the only day to fish for the week we decided that we'd head out to Rosily. Twas very windy and the whole day we were getting very wet (5.75m centre console). Nothing to be had!! Did catch my first Red Emperor

Day two was supposed to be windy all day! So we went up to 3rd creek and nabbed 1 muddy. Wouldn't you know it it glassed off.So we went out to Dirrection Isl for a bit of drift baiting. Heaps of spanish (flag that is) and various little fish.(break out the pink durango)

That evening Mark came to visit and told us we could tag along with the group out to Bessieres Isl (life saver, cause I was wanting to kill SOMETHING). The trip out was good, bit of wind but because we were following the wind we didn't get a drop. On arrival to the island Mark PINGED a spot to fish for us and down went the anchor. Started to berley and almost straight away started to catch fish!!

So a good day was had by all!!!! We made it back on a glass off. Once again the next day was meant to be windy so we trolled around the rock wall in town picking up small gt's and queenies!! Then came the glass off AGAIN!!! 2 good days down the gurgerler!!!! BUGGER!!!!

Thursday night it blew harder than it had the whole time. So we made the call to put a few kms behind us on the friday (don't want to hear that it glassed off Fri). It was still blowing just before lunch so we headed off to the S-Bend CP. Got a bit of a blowout just short of Carnarvon!!!

We arrived 3.30 Sat morning and had a good days rest before heading down for a fish that evening. There was bugger all around but the sunset was awesome!!!!!

Then Sun morning it was head home with a stop for a DUMP (burger that is) at Badgie!!!! If you have never tried one your missing out!!!!! Time all my trips to get one for lunch or tea!

HOME SWEET HOME  (very quiet with the family still in Tassie until Wed)

LET THE CLEANING OF GEAR BEGIN!!!!!

First time - Staal?

Tue, 2008-06-24 15:52

Yes, I'm sure it's very hard to get it exactly right the first time and you must learn heaps from that first experience.

What would you do differently, improve on, change, enhance etc?

i can vouch for early may

Tue, 2008-06-24 16:22

i can vouch for early may ,yes the winds they can realy stuff you around. we found last trip in may that the winds tend to die off in the arvo.the weathers just that bit warmer to ,so a bit of chop and water coming over the side is a bit easier to take ,one thing i would take next year is a couple of water proof rain coats .so the trips out and in ya dont get as wet and the chill factor is zero . when on the anchor it dosnt matter as .ive done trips in from Bessieres Island that have taken over 2 hours got saturated ,well my rain coat was,, but it didnt matter as i wasnt cold,, the beer was though!!!!! .

always in it just the depth that varies

Things learnt!!!!

Speak to the locals on the weather! (Bottle of bourbon for the CP owner)

Use wire when getting lots of bust offs ! Even single strand would have seen us land more!!!

Rain jacket is a must! Only had a normal jacket and that was crusty after the first trip out!!

Destinations! Went to Rosily when it apparently is full of BIG sharks! Still go there for the GT's but !!!

Brave the morning wind and hope for the glass off!! Without threatening myself or crew!!

CHALET!!!!!!!!!!! So not quite so much stuff required!!!!

And probably learn more and more with every trip in the coming years!!! As long as the missus doesn't kill me in the mean time!!!!!!!!!

Is that a wreck or a natural phenomena. Looks like a fantastic light tackle spot.

It's the remains of an old jetty!! and to the left it had a nice little reef cutting back in toward it. I'll try put the photo in of the left side???

So you can imagine this coming back to the old jetty(just out of shot). nice little spot would be great with a fly rod!!!!
