State Environment Minister Bill Marmion.

Today Bill Marmion the State Environment Minister has announced that he has dusted off the plans and it is under consideration for a series of Marine Parks from Busselton to Augusta.

Recfish West are complaining that they haven't had any input into the proposal and the recfishers on the South coast instead of targeting the Greenie Groups are complaining about commercial fishers. If Marine Parks are put in place and I've said it before you can expect to see your fish stocks depleted even further regardless of what Jessica Meeuwig says because the competition between Recfishers and the Commercial guys will intensify for the remaining stock.

Jessica Meeuwig's knowledge of the habits of the Iconic Dhufish in this region is  extremely  limited and having fished for the species for over 50 years I believe it may well spell the end for that species. My reason is that I believe Dhufish do not grow up in that region but they get transported on the Capes to Capes current from an area south of Augusta and we all know the big bucks start showing up in September onwards in this area.  The big eyes the Dhufish have would give an indication that they  inhabit deep waters before entering the capes region for spawning.

Both the Recreational sector and the Commercial sector need to get their heads together and pool their knowledge of the area to make the Environment Minister aware of the hazards of relying on information from a person who is paid to have an opinion with very little local knowledge. Please feel free to voice your concerns.

My opinion is that she is clearly paid to have an opinion by Pew.

Pew is an international organisation based on oil mining. What is their agenda?

They have ummed and ahhed about banning fishing the geographe bay dhufish breeding aggregation for 80yrs.

That would be a good first step!

In the US, some oil lobbies found it easier to drill for oil in places where they had already limited recreational and commercial fishing access.

Man all this conspiracy of Jessica Meeuwig, Greenies, PEW, Oil Companies, sounds like the perfect making of another Michael Moore film. Would make an interesting watch if found to be true.

Bloody Greenies hidden agendas.

The greenies science says that fish radiate out from the marine parks and provide fish for the fishermen outside the marine park but in this case the fish move into the marine park from areas not included in the sanctuary zones and makes them easy picking for the nets which is what is happening now. If Bill Marmion is prepared to risk the public backlash if our fish start disappearing I'd be quite happy to vote and put the present State Government on the opposition side of Parliament just for being stupid.

Donelly Banks

Thu, 2011-03-24 23:13

Talking of offering areas for closure?, why not offer the Donelly Banks. It's an area east of Black Point nearly all the way to the east of Windy Harbour.

This area is rich in Dhuys and Snapper and is only accessible by large craft on a good day. It has three rivers spilling into it from near on native forrests which makes it ideal for a marine park??.

It's also a known spawning ground for these "Iconic" species which adds to the argument.

It appears no one wishes to make an offering to these groups.

I'm not a greeny or tree hugger.

Just a thought.

Sssshhhhhhhhh, or else they

Sssshhhhhhhhh, or else they close that AS WELL as the more fished areas.

I am sure they probably havent even heard let alone done any research down there. Like you said very remote and hard to get to. I mean hey when they are doing research they want to have access to nice water and ramps too, just like us fisho's! They dont want to have to bash the shit out of themselves in the wild south!, much easier to target the capes region.
