steep point 2014
just got back from a week up at steep that was just insane!!! hand down the most pelagic action ive ever seen landbased. 6 of us fishing completely bagged out in 4 days and just relaxed for our last day and a half.
just posting my photos as some of the boys want to use theirs for articles ect but anyway highlights for me where, PB mack, first mack spinning, big marlin over 80kg smashing my bait only 100m out, sails all over the place, huge tailor from down the coast a bit, macks in palgues, sharks for fun off the beaches and demersals just everywhere.
what we kept, 20 pinkies, 17 baldies, 11 jumbo crays, 14 spanish, 1 sharkie, 1 longtail, 1 yellowfin, 1 sail, 1 estuary cod, 1 coro trout, 2 red throat emps, 1 cobia and lots more we used as bait or released. absolutely magic trip with some of the best weather ive seen up that way and we all had a ball and got stuck into some great fish. To me this is why LBG is addictive

Very nice - great to see a
Very nice - great to see a report about Steep that is something other than 'couldn't get past the sharks!'
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Just a question Chris
Is leaving the frames out like that because you dont want to dump them back in and attract sharks. I just thought it would smell the whole place out.

Yeah left them out so sharks
Yeah left them out so sharks wouldn't be attracted. After a day in the hot sun they hardly smell anyway.

im going to risk sounding like an idiot here, but is a 4x4 essential to get to steep point? haha
Fantastic report and pics man, must have been an amazing trip :)
the greatest trick a fish ever did, was convincing man that they werent there....

Simple answer
Without a GOOD 4x4 you wont get there, and sometimes even they can struggle if the tracks been cut up after rains.

Yep definitely 4wd only,
Yep definitely 4wd only, there's some soft sand dunes that you need to go over to get there.
You also need to be completely self sufficient. No water, food or power up there. People usually take a generator and a chest freezer to keep their fillets in.

Any news on what the track is like at the moment? Going in may. Last year we went in june and it had just been graded. The boys driving in could do 100+ at times.

Thanks everyone.Track was
Thanks everyone.
Track was ok, usual for this time of year. We had an absolute ball and so so many more photos taken that I haven't put up but each of the 6 of us left with 20kg of fillets and 2 jumbo crayfish for our efforts.
only lost 6-7 fish the whole trip to sharks and one to the cod which was really good I thought
