Was there the first week of june and it was pretty rough going in. Had a massive rain event whilst there and all the flowing water smoothed the road out a fair bit. Was much better going out.
Just got back today, track was in very good condition, a mate did it in two wheel drive without knowing (he told the kids to lock the hubs but they got distracted)
This was our first trip there and had been told to expect a pretty gnarly drive, but it was very tame. We towed a very heavy trailer and never even looked like slipping a wheel.
I think the recent rain has helped, I reckon it could change heaps in a couple of months. Hope this helps.
Hi Curndog, we had originally arranged to meet a mate who was going to bring his over, but work committments meant he couldn't make it so was land based only. Due to weather the cliffs were pretty much unfishable the whole time we were there, and we didn't get as much time fishing as we would have hoped. It actually turned out to be more of a 4WD and camping trip than an esky filling fishing trip, but still managed to bring home a few fillets. Highlight was undoubtedly my lucky mate who landed a 10kg spaniard on a bottom rig off a sandy beach - bloody amazing. Saw heaps of bust ups well out of casting distance, and caught a few sharks, mulloway, tuskfish, spanglies, a very small baldy and a huge trevally that went like a freight train. Most of the fishing time was spent on a sandy beach on the east side of the island.
