navionics card
Submitted by wez0062 on Mon, 2018-07-23 12:09
hey guys, i just got a Lawarnce 2 Hook 5 unit for my 4.2mtr dinghy, i didn't realise it would not have a navionics card. Should i just go for a "silver card " as i won't be going deep, just local coastal waters bewteen Jurien bay & Denmark, or do i have to get a Gold card. I thought Silver would be fine, but i am sure it is only usefull in water up to 10mtrs deep. I am CONFUSED.
PLEASE HELP :)

Plus
I would go Navionics Plus (Navionics +) if you fish WA waters and don't fish nationally. For about $170 (online or whitworths/bcf) you can get a more detailed card that also gives you the chance to update and download the sonar charts recorded by the community. You don't have to upload your own unless you want to be able to see them on your plotter for specific spots but then it gives away your spots if people know what to look for.
It is a 12 month subscription but the card doesn't stop working after the 12 months, it just means you don't get any more updates. Just update before the end of the 12 months and you have the latest card for your given region.

Navionics trade in cards
Not wanting to hijack this thread but some may not be aware that you may be able to trade in your old card. I recently contacted Navionics Aus directly and they offerred $85.00 as a trade in value on my 2007 Gold card. This deal is not supported by retailers of Navionics cards that I am aware of, certainly not Whitworths.

I reckon they know that when you sell one second hand they lose an inflated sale.

The Hook2 units come with an inbuilt C map chart you will have to select Lowrance when looking at the chart selection. If it is the 5xGPS model then it only has a plotter and no ability to add a chart.
