Super Deep Yesterday!!
With both Sunday and Mondays forecast looking good and a gap between filming I didnt need much convincing. Sunday I took out good mate Scott (Soupster) and we got into a dozen plump offshore KG's!
Yesterday with the ban being lifted I thought a Super Deep fish was in order, good mate Craig (Fishcrazy) came out for a run and wow how was the conditions!!
I sounded around one of my spots and after finding bugger all I was about to go to another spot but thought I havnt checked this edge (the only spot I didnt cover) and whalla ..... fish!!
Craig asked me what fish do you reckon they are Ryan, I said I reckon Bass re the way they were sitting on the edge & colour etc. Craig drops down a super deep paternoster rig and hooks up straight away ....... I said leave it down for a double header and well the next fish to jump on had my JM rod fully loaded and Craig pulled up against the gunwhale!!
The end result was a big fight and leaving Craig very broken ha ha!
Craig with a 30kg & 20kg Bass groper double header!!
Craig had bagged out and I drove over that school again. Often when I get a hook up from a school that stirs up more action and by now it look like that school had blue eye and a mix!
I dropped my Super Deep 1kg jig and within seconds I was on!
End result was a solid Blue Eye Trevalla on jig!
Needing one more fish I re-drifted and hooked up again!
Ended up being a Hapuku on jig!
Was a great day on the water ............ good company cheers Craig

Great fish! Very impressed
Great fish! Very impressed calling the species(and then two other species showed up WOW!) How long does it take to get the jig down if it only took seconds to hook up? sorry still new to this deep drop stuff. Do the blue eye hang off the bottom a fair way?
I actually fish.

cheers!
Macca, after spending many years out there its easy to read a school of super deep fish and have an idea of whats down there. Having a descent Furuno commercial sounder and plenty of time on the water makes that happen however
As for two other species turning up ..... as I stated " Often when I get a hook up from a school that stirs up more action and by now it look like that school had blue eye and a mix" ...... other schools mix in after hookup commotion ......expected/usual!!!!
Yep after the jig hits the bottom I was on ..... a few cranks of the handle ....... takes a few minutes to get down!!
B/Eye can hang up to 20m from the bottom but the colour of the school and formation gives them away easily

That's an impressive
collection of deep water species. Swap the smaller Bass Groper for a Ruby Snapper and you would have the perfect quad

Awesome day once again mate. What's wrong with Craig, couldn't hold up both fish at once. Man Up Fishcrazy. LMFAO, I know that pain and its exhaustingly great. Great fishing you guys.
The best reason for doing what's right today is tomorrow.

Thought you might get it
School whiting for bait -- OK if I spares. YFW - Never!!!
Ryan are you aware of any spots down my way off mandurah. Obviously not GPS but are there areas off here.
My boat is only 5.4m but have a mate that wants to try this with a 9m boat on the canals down here, so would feel safe.
He just couldnt believe his eyes when I showed him the pictures of the quad!

Johnny, they dont suffer parasites ........ what your seeing is usual hard fighting Bass barotrauma skin tissue issues ........... it doesnt effect the fish flesh at all

Ryan
Just a quick question I know you can answer. It always appear the the bass get barotrauma and look all pop eyed. But the trevalla and Harpuka never appear that they suffer this much.
Obviously you cant ever return a bass, but would it be possible to return if the situation needed it a Trevalla or Harpuka to the deep. Purely wondering but obviously the situation could arise if for example 2 attacked your second jig and you had a double aswell (then you would also know how Craig felt!!)
Just interested as it is a long way up and down??

Very nice
I heard you logging in with sea rescue and said to my mate, "That's Ryan for sure, I bet that bastard is going deep" Good to see it paid off.
Time and effort = results.... otherwise I would call you for a jammy bastard (hehehe).
Seafood Xmas lunch at Ryan's place....
Merry Xmas.
Cheers

gday fisho,s just a quick one on how to set these reel,s to automatically jig I partly follow the instructions, but am a little weary that I might stuff up the settings while in the deep, yep you bet it sounds even lazier, work smarter not harder, nice to know how to reset it after jigging mode everything is written in Japanese and yep I,m not to keen on learning another language, nice fish ryan I,ll get there yet, cheers.
