Surf Popper surprises

Went for a fish at Buffalo beach last night. On the beach a bit late and line in the water at 6pm. Water was like glass. No wind, slight swell.

I used a rig with gang and mulie, surf popper below, sinker on bottom. Wasn't expecting to get anything on the surf popper at night.

Nearly caught more fish on the poper than on bait. Herring, small bream, whiting, pike, and this is what I was most surprised about, a Mulloway.

Ended up catching a dozen herring, 2 pike, 2 small bream, a whiting and 5 undersize mulloway biggest being 42cm.

Just starting to do a bit of fishing around Bunbury a bit more now so hopefully I will have some larger specimens to talk about soon. Had a few decent bites but no big hookups. Really want to get a big mulloway and a shark to fill the freezer.

Cheers

Rob

 No probs Snags.

I can't really comment on the quality of the hooks, only jst started catching fish on them. Caught the 42cm Mulloway on it. Real test would be catching a salmon on one.

 A mate newly discovered this

A mate newly discovered this aswell and says he always includes a popper on his beach rigs now, even landed a few salmon down south on the green kmart ones. Did u have to work them at all or just let the bait sit out and wait for a bite? Didnt think theyd work just resting in the surf buf its how my mate made it sound.

Just left it.

 Hey Niko

i just left it sitting while I had a mulie on the gang. Wasn't working it at all and it was a dead calm night so wouldn't have been a lot of movement.

Was very surprised with the result.
