Swan river bulls

Hey i was looking for some info on bull sharks out the swan. Iv done abit of research and havent found too mutch about them there pretty elusive. iv caught a small one and a sand bar out the river but was looking to see if anyone knew anything about 2m + specimens  that lurk around in the rivers around spring when they spawn in the rivers.

Was even looking to see if anyone wanted to flick a few pm's to talk about where they might hang out or even team up and do a few sessions in the river and see if we could hook up on one.

Anyone with info or could point me in the right direction thanks in advance

 When the weather starts

Fri, 2016-07-15 08:08

When the weather starts warming up  they start to fire up. Slow trolled livies on the yaks is easiest way if you cant get hold of a yak, Very lightly weighted livies with enough leader for them to move off the bottom freely. Try very heavy mono rather than wire with a circle hook for corner jaw hook up away from the teeth. Through summer there are alot of them from maylands to past guldford. Smelly bastards they are! Good luck.

 Haha me and my cousin

Fri, 2016-07-15 13:18

Haha me and my cousin (sammythesalmon) went out a few times last summer ( report in river forum as river monsters) and we'll definately be doing it again this year. They are awsome to catch off a yak! You hold on and get towed around while you watch em jump and thrash around. Then when they are done you tow them to a bank get some snaps watch em swim off and do it all again. Gets the blood flowing. They are too busy eating the ducks and mullet to worry bout a few pissed guys on kayaks.

Have you tried eating them

Fri, 2016-07-15 11:38

Have you tried eating them Rob?  I've read a bit about the guys targeting the small bulls in the Brisbane River and they seem quite well rated.

Quality eating

Fri, 2016-07-15 11:53

Have tried them on more than a few occasions and found them to be not too bad, not as good as bronzie or big wobby but better than a lot of others

Caught up with a uwa bull

Sat, 2016-07-16 14:04

Caught up with a uwa bull shark researcher few months back and he said that up north bull sharks are known to live in fresh water knee  deep pools. So id say they would travel as far up as they can. A 2m+ was caught around lilac hill last year. Anywhere with a deep gutter and shallow flats for them to feed off at night will hold the big girls.

I'll be honest, if you didnt

Fri, 2016-07-22 13:58

I'll be honest, if you didnt have a peddle yak, with a hand controlled rudder to steer etc, would make things a whole lot more difficult on the river to land a fish of that size.

Not impossible, just a new level of difficult!

there is a place just before the causeway called the department of water there is three jettys there the big one is closed off but fish from either one next to it and it lets u cast into some deep water i have caught two bullsharks from there both around 11pm at night dunno what tides moon etc i just used a simple runnign sinker rig with two snelled hooks on 60lb flurocarbon i have only gotten one onto land the other bit threw the leader as i got him near the jetty so i guess you could use a wire trace hope this helps great bream fishing around there aswell to keep you entertained

All the crew

Sun, 2017-01-22 15:38

All the crew have been getting bitten off over this month.
Some have had to move spots cause they cant keep baits out for the croakers.
They land the occasional one or 2 on circle hooks, but say if you use wire to target them you will have little success.
As usual its hard to get any real info about locations and even between themselves you will get misinformation , lol
PM sent Andy ,

I was trolling the rock wall

Sun, 2017-01-22 09:58

I was trolling the rock wall next to the Ascot race course last year which is a big sandy flat and my electric motor bumped into something almost sending me into the water. I've trolled that same area numerous times since then and never hit anything again and am convinced I hit a bull shark.
