Swan river prawns 2013

I went for a dab in Rocky Bay on Sunday with a huge catch of 2 whole prawns. Not deterred, I hit it again on Monday night with a renewed vigor but alas, not a one. Chit chat at the ramp reviled catches no greater than a dozen prawns.

I'm not expert but from what I was told, I though Sunday would have been a great night for it with a good flush out and good rains on the days preceeding it. Any thoughts

Cheers

Adam

First decent rain usually gets them firing... I'm surprised by the lack of numbers you are experiencing. Give it another go,might have been an off night

The way I see it is the tides this week have not been opportune.

The image above is from tides4fishing.com set for fremantle.  I like to see a big run out tide of more than 0.6 mt with high tide between say 4pm-7pm running out through the night.  If it is a dark moon period and it has rained 3-4 days in the past well then I reckon that is lining up all your ducks.  How many boats have been out on the water?  I think you will know if you have got the right night as you can just about walk from one side of the river to the other without getting your feet wet. As you can see from the chart over the weekend we are going into a diurnal (two tides a day) pattern.  On sunday/monday the second high tide is in the 'right' time period, but because of the diurnal tide, it is only running out at 0.1 or 0.2mt which isnt really enough to make the prawns turn on.  I have been waiting for a better tidal period before heading out for a boat dab this year.  Still no reason not to go for a night dive and see what you can see.  The low tidal movement is better for diving anyway.

I am by no means an expert, Fisho-ron gave me some tips a few years back.

better for not going out. You really need to follow the tides otherwise a really good rain to flush them to get numbers above 50 plus.
