trigg tailor

Caught this fella at Trigg while teaching the misses how to cast metals and poppers for an upcoming Kalbarri trip. He went 50cm, was caught on a green and gold waxwing he was the fattest Tailor i've seen actually thought it was a Salmon on the first jump. We were having a great day until some arrogant person started to cast over my misses, which caused her to stress out and caused me to use some rather descriptive language. Everybody has the right to learn somewhere. I'll leave it at this if that was you this afternoon then you know my face and you have been warned next time there will be action taken. you have been warned. Sorry to everybody else to leave it on a bad note.

Nice one Callum. There's no shortage of morons down at Trigg that think it's ok to stand right next to you & cast at the exact same spot you are or cast right over you, just as bad as North Mole at times. I've come close to thumping a few people down there. Anyway, solid fish mate, well done.

I hate it when people cast

Tue, 2013-05-14 14:20

I hate it when people cast over the top of you.  I think the only excuse is if you've just had a shit one off cast, or you're under the age of 12 and just don't know any better yet.  When it happens constantly, or from experienced fisho's it's just not on.  If they must share the spot (it's the only hole on the reef) then take turns at casts same as one would taking drifts over a well known lump.

Fatty Tailor

Hey Callum,

I think I saw you guys just heading down from the car park in the afternoon - I remember the hair, I was just wandering down to check out the weed situation for a cast later on.

There have been some good fish out from the point recently but you just have to get used to tolerating some of the 'less able' crowd. I generally forfeit some of the better rips and gutters to have some space - seeing as the area generally produces. It always surprises me why people feel the need to fill in the smallest gaps and perhaps the most surprising thing Ive noticed recently is that the worst of the culprits seem to be the older fellas who are down there fishing for herring that casually wander right down in front of me and cast out right through my line of sight?!

Anyway - nice one on the Tailor especially for a daytime session, Ive found a lot of long lean models after summer so this is a good bit of evidence that they should start bulking up for winter.

Small report update

Thu, 2013-05-16 21:43

Yeah Callum I'll catch up with you for a fish sometime. I've just got in after being out with a couple of guys from work that I usually take out on a Thursday afternoon. Hit one of the NOR metro beaches locally and the fish seemed to be firing almost as hard as the thunder and lightening.

5 good tailor 46-49 (first 4 off were chubby little monsters and the fifth was a bit morer like the streamlined summer choppers). There was a nice Mulloway which went 57 and a few small herring.

Interstingly had a visit from 2 Fisheries guys before the weather turned sour! I will see if I can load up the pics tomorrow, I managed to get a couple of quick snaps on my phone as we were rushing to get off the beach when the last storm came through about 7.40.

Cheers

Were you using lures or bait

Fri, 2013-05-17 05:54

Were you using lures or bait Greayheads1? I'm assuming bait seeing as you got a mulloway. Also what time did the fish come on? Super Peg & I threw lures around Trigg for about 3 hours yesterday for only one fish, a fat 40-42cm tailor, for me luckily. We gave it away just after dark so a bit earlier than usual. I was just wondering if the fish came on a bit later. I'm meeting up with Callum for a fish this arvo, might take a bag of mulies as a back up plan.

Baitrunner

Yep - all on bait, the humble mulie took the lot. Simple paternoster on gangs.

The fish came on about 17:40 whilst the wind was blowing nicely, two tailor and the Mulloway were all banked inside 40 minutes pretty much. If i had been by myself I probably would have chipped off at this point but the Thursday evenings are bit more of a social so we stuck on, the wind dropped and the fishing went quiet for an hour, but the storm front provided plenty of entertainment whilst it was in the distance. Then the herring came on first - baits were being desimated after being in the water for <5mins. so I threw out a couple of prawms on a double hook paternoster for mate no. 1 who pulled in a couple of herring. Mate no. 2 then hit into 3 tailor back to back from about 20:00 ish. Then the storm got a little too close and we bailed.

Fish came from all distances as well - mate no.2 cant cast that far so he was pulling them out from 30m, whereas the others were from ~90.

We did have a couple of surf poppers out as bye-lines on the mulie rigs but not a sniff.

Thanks for the info

Fri, 2013-05-17 08:26

Thanks for the info Greyheads1, sounds like a nice little session. Think I got my tailor around the same time, maybe 15mins earlier. I was surprised not to get any herring yesterday, usually get heaps down at trigg on slices or 1oz richters. I'm going to put yesterdays bad result down to just hitting one spot instead of covering ground looking for the fish like I usually do. I'll be sure to be more mobile today.

Cheers mate, good meeting you to, just a shame the fish didn't cooperate for you. I'll be covering more ground today so if you do come down I might not be easy to find. I'll be back near the hole around 4ish though so I can meet up with Callum when he comes down.
