Swearing and Site Rules
Hi All,
Lately the level of swearing has been on the increase with lots of posts needing to be edited. Can you all please be mindful that we do have a lot of young readers that don't need to be exposed to foul language. The site is family friendly and whilst we are pretty liberal with what gets posted, lately the swearing has been on the increase to the point where it is frustrating for the moderators and I to clean it up.
Please have a good think about what you are posting and refrain from swearing unless completely necessary, we don't want to be a nanny site, but we do want our younger readers to be able to enjoy the content. This is also important if we want to be taken seriously in some of the various threads that pop up, this site is viewed by a lot of influential people in fisheries and other govt departments, lets keep our standards high so we are given the respect we deserve as fishermen with opinions that count.
Cheers,
Adam

Totally agree
Like Tangles, my 8 & 10yr old daughters also like to sit with me and they have a competition to identify the fish in all the posts. I don't want them reading some of what goes up on here, and I regularly steer them away from the Friday Funnies posts, so its a timely reminder Adam. It's a great site and it would be a pity if the family oriented users stayed away.

Good points raised...
...although I wouldn't think it was ever "completely necessary" to swear....

true
True that, then again, I could see some necessity in Beau's recent thread.

whoops that's mine-I'll remove! Its not meant to flash, the needle on the "give a toss ometer" jiggles about zero but it must clash with the sites software-thought it was only on my phone.
Agree Adam, and Im guilty also even though my boys look on here as well

Never flashed on mine .. now Rob's avatarless lol . Swearing etc commonsense should prevail there depends on the context and tone of the post I guess . Govt Departments tuning in to our conversations .. I think we should demand a apology !!

agree with most of the above
agree with most of the above this sites great in that it's not over the top with political correctness but probably could be a tad cleaner at times.
Speaking of that Chris - I spy on my neighbour ;-0 - but its all right apparently everybody's doing it (that's my new defence anyway).

Good points Adam
A site that can be read by anyone is what make this so good. Being respected by decision makers is an important goal too.

Good family
site for all ages. I'm married to a retired truckie and you can image the &^%$# in this household but as old fart says there is a time and a place to swear. Not on here as there are young nippers that love reading and looking at photos of fish caught.
Take my hat of to you Adam, keeping this site for everybody to read.

Yep fair post, no need to swear. Good to have a family friendly site within reason! sure some people can't control what comes out of their mouths but you can easily control what you type. Just think before you post!

Also i think shortening "you
Also i think shortening "you guy's" to "use" "yous" "youse" "you's" should be considered swearing.
Grinds my gears.

How about...
...using the term "trolling" instead of "trawling" when referring to the act of pulling lures behind a boat?

Huh
I think you have it the wrong way around!!!
Trolling is a method of fishing where one or more fishing lines, baited with lures or bait fish, are drawn through the water. This may be behind a moving boat, or by slowly winding the line in when fishing from a static position, or even sweeping the line from side-to-side, e.g. when fishing from a jetty. Trolling is used to catch pelagic fish such as salmon, mackerel and kingfish.
Trolling can be phonetically confused with trawling, a different method of fishing where a net (trawl) is drawn through the water instead of lines. Trolling is used both for recreational and commercial fishing whereas trawling is used mainly for commercial fishing.

Cheers Guys
I just get pissed off when everyone says trawling for tuna etc when you are trolling. So pinched the defination straight from the web.
Wasnt trying to pick on Auslobster, but so many get this WRONG and I even had a respected deckie on board who asked when are we going for a Trawl. Since Trawl nets are a pet hate of mine because of the bycatch issue he soon was educated in the correct nunciation.

Reminder
Timely reminder for all please, especially as we come into school holidays and there will be lots of kids viewing the site. If we could try and refrain from swearing it would be appreciated.
Some of you will notice I have new sponsors coming onto the site, I have a fair few things needing to be done to the back end of the site and there are a few improvement ideas as well that will be around controlling/reporting the swearing/language/behaviour.

Could we also ban avatars
Could we also ban avatars such as the one Justin M is using .. I find it very offensive and overall , I find all Hawthorn supporters here are the underlying problem and should be culled .

Appreciate the support on the other thread fellas, but I'm not interested in digging up the past and I have much better things to spend my time on. Stay tuned for some more big announcements for Fishwrecked to come soon, onwards and upwards!
