tailor this sunday

hey all, after a few tips for catching my first tailor. dont get out much for late night/early morning fishing but ive got all sunday arvo free till after dark. tide will be up but not much of one from the looks and a bit of wind aswell.
i still find it hard to convert weather forecast to surf beach conditions and have many times head out to find it was too rough to keep a bait out, sunday looks ok to me but if anyone can point out tips in what weather id be looking for itd be much appreciated.

i was aiming to head out to cottesloe aound the reef or the beaches north of there all new ground to me so if anyone wil be in the area and dont mind some company or to share some tips that would be great. ive read up heaps of info on FW, the net and metro fishing reports so i have gear rigs etc fairly sorted and am willing to tavell around to find the fish even if it turns out coastals going to be no good and hit the river instead.

cheers all
Niko

Best tip I can give you for

Fri, 2014-12-12 06:47

Best tip I can give you for Cottesloe is to go during the day and find a nice deep section off the beach or to the edge of the reef line it up with a house behind you and come back at sunset to fish it this technique provides two advantages 1# you get a good perve at lunch time 2# you get a good spot to fish at night

I normally use a paternoster rig or bait cast if the wind/ swell allows

Hi Niko, Sw winds around

Fri, 2014-12-12 10:54

Hi Niko,
Sw winds around 10-15kn are good around sunset.
A bit of chop is good. Running sinker rig, no wire trace, just a short reasonably strong mono leader.
There's been chopper tailor at the beaches around Scarb and Floreat the last few weeks, or if you want the bigger versions, North Mole later in the night. Caught 2 at 50cm late last night. Strong Southerly winds can be annoying so that rules out Fri/Sat! Sun looks ok.
Good Luck

cheers mate yeah i started thinking floreat might be worth a go instead but will still scout around while its still light. big 1s would be nice haha but hey im happy with a few choppers, ive got a smoker at home so i might even keep 1 or 2 bigger ones to try out so as long as i get something sized ill be alright

Tailor trace configuration.

This is the rig I use, I find the cork keeps the bait just off the weeds.

just reading the weeks

Sat, 2014-12-13 14:24

just reading the weeks fishing report and it sounds like cott to floreat is a good bet, also mentions whiting being caught regularly will it be to rough for whiting sunday? just thinking could be a good way to kill time while waiting for the tailor and also means fresh bait. ive only ever caught whiting on sheltered beaches in calm conditions so it hadnt really crossed my mind

 Yeh no good unfortunately,

Mon, 2014-12-15 19:29

Yeh no good unfortunately, ended up trying 2 spots. North of swanbourne had a big gutter and alot of whitewater but surf was rough. Managed to keep a bait out with a grapnel sinker but waves constantly tugging on the line was too hard to read if there were hits or not. Moved down to cott near the reef but no bites, guys near me got 1 from what i saw didnt see what it was. Lost a few rigs to the reef. Still it seemed i was doing everything right just no luck stayed untill 830. jeez good conditions for tailor arent the most comfortable for ppl haha ah well was a bit disalusioned at the time but even more keen to put some more hrs in to land 1 now!

Oh well

Chin up, seems you were doing everything right and fishing the right water. Ouch if you lost a few grapnels on the reef $$.

Still your first tailor will be remembered a long time after catching it. Just ask Lauchie :)

I might get out for a fish on Thursday night, if so I will PM you and see if we can't find a few. Only a maybe at this stage.

Cheers,

D80
