A big call I know
But did they put some mono backing on when they spooled up the braid?
if not then it may be a case of the braid actually slipping on the spool and therefore not giving you much drag capacity at all.

One other question
When you push the lever drag up to the strike position, is the leaver hard to push upward?
with the small drag adjustment screw plate on the side cranked in then the lever should be very tight to push upward to the strike position. If not then it sounds as though there could be something wrong with the reel.

Another option is to take it
Another option is to take it to your nearest local fishing tackle store and ask them to look at it for you. I am sure most would help you out. That's not saying those on here are not pointing you in the right direction.
Have a look at the site sponsors and see if any are in your area.
