Tantabiddi boat ramp upgrade plans.

Got some plans for the new ramp today from the shire. Had to scan them in sections but you`ll get the idea.

Looks like there wont be any standing in the water or getting bogged anymore. Finger jetty should be long enough to have 2 boats at least on either side so it should speed things up a bit. Looks like a seperate jetty for the commercial operators so should be good.

Might not take us an hour to get back on the trailer now :-)

ahhhh perfect,

now all we need is everyone to understand the etiquette of launching a boat on a finger jetty that is only capable of holding 2 boats.....

it only takes one clown to clog that jetty up. maybe they should spend an extra $1k on some signage on correct procedures of launching/retreiving, lining up, etc. it would make any ramp more systematic. but then again, that relys on people doin the right thing too.

i suppose its definately better than whats there now though, so thats a plus. it will still need a dredge every now and again, but nowhere near as often as it does now.

Good work on posting the drwgs

That is certainly an improvement on the existing facility and good to see that the recs and the com boys are being catered for.  Etiquette you say Scotto.  I'm not convinced that many know the meaning of the word these days, it's all me, me, me, f u.

i'm sure people will catch on sooner how it all works.  A bit of patience and a gentle word of advice to those that don't know.

2 boats each side?

Sat, 2011-06-11 08:23

not sure that that will be the case for bigger boats, most of these jettys I've used in tidal areas have the buffer pole to short so the boat futher out on the jetty has the pole rubbing against the paint work instead of the gunnel. Hedland is a prime example. Make the pole a meter higher they would be great

That is exactly the feedback

that should go back to the Shire.  Make them aware of practical improvements that can be made.  It is not difficult for them to remedy design issues now prior to the contract being awarded.

Starting in October is what I heard , no idea how long it will take to finish.

Be good if the old ramp could stay too but I doubt that will happen.

Plan says two lanes with a finger jetty between and another jetty to the side, the idea is that the whaleshark etc dingys can drop and pick up punters from the extra jetty so the ramp itself doesnt get so congested. We will see . .

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.
