Teaser Rebuild

As my Teaser is around 3 years old, it was looking a little worst for wear.

So i striped it down to find the weights used in it are steel, Stupid idea hey being used in saltwater.

Went to bunnings, where i picked up a nice bit of 70X45mm dressed pine. Original was 70X40mm, close enough i reckon.

Cut it to size & drilled out the holes for the weights, but this time used molten lead poured directly into to the weight holes, accounting for the difference of density of lead etc, etc....

Used some 4 coats marine varnish, even coating the pre drilled holes to avoid any water ingression, hopefully.

Then top coat of a nice bright danellion yellow paint, another 4 odd coats.

Then toped it off with some red glitter for blood effect, sealed with clear laquer

Replaced the old mirrors, tow point & eyes and done.

Pictures showing New Rebuilt & Old one, what was left. :)

Yes, that will be the real test if it swims correctly, but it should be as good as the old, even if I need to tweak the balance a little.

I chucked my original Pakula witchdoctor out

Had a cleanout a few years ago, didn't think it had ever done anything except dong the boat and get in the way. Use a string of glitterbirds with a big skirt on the end, sails and wahoo attack that in a way they never did to the mirrored plank. Belt the crap out it, in fact, which speaks volumes.

I haven't ever used any other teasers, only cause they look like I'll end up in a tangled mess knowing my luck.

Original timber Witchdoctors

Original timber Witchdoctors are worth big money now. Pakula changed the design to make them easier to produce and just not the same.

Yeah, you can always use them as a club

.  Some teasers are really complex, I stay right away from them, and from multiples, just the one robust string seems to do the job(for me)

 Agree with ranmar One long

 Agree with ranmar

One long string of birds and big squids

only mod in recent times has been addition of big skirted pusher at end and scent blazer basket loaded with tuna chunks at start...gets the crap knocked out of it!

only use witch doctor style when chasing mackies

Has a bit on sails off Kuala Rompin, and a different approach to the usual drift fishing done there.. They got a Gautemalan expert over, and they were doing pretty much what I do, co-incidentally, except they were running two teasers. Big string of squid with a big skirt on the end.  My teaser had been rigged with heavy coated wire, ( behind cord to the boat) which had started to rust, so I replaced it with 300lb mono. Big mistake, got mass Wahoo'ed one day , and that 12" skirt on the end was snipped clean. Its replacement looks like it has been sandpapered by the amount of bill hits it has had.  They called it switchbaiting, but they were running baits out near the teasers, sails either hooked on the intial strike, or baits were freespooled as soon as the sails turned up and the treasers were retrieved. Which is basically what I do.

We run 2 strings of birds and squid of the outriggers not that far back from the boat but wide enough to clear the wash but still able to get switchbait to the fish and if its quiet run another string off the transom real close to the boat. pink skirted eva pusher or small rigged queenie on ends. its amazing how often the close one raises fish. Hate witchdoctors great for attracting mackies
