Thailand

Since im getting married in only 8 weeks time, and we arent planning an 'over seas's trip away after the wedding, decided to organise a holiday away with the missus in Thailand (place she wants to go). Planning leaving a day or 2 after xmas and spending new years there.

Just wondering if anyone has been, and could recommend places towns or resorts to stay at from experiences there???

Dont really want to stay in Phuket or bangkok as it will be busy as hell that time of year im sure.

Looking at going for 8-10 nights

Idea is for a relaxing holiday and not spending every minute in busy streets and shops, would like to do some tours through the country side etc.. but ideally stay in a resort on the water.

Cheers

Try Rai Le beach

Bodie, I assume it is a typo and you meant "away with the missus", not "away from the missus"!  If it is not a typo, I suggest forgetting about the wedding and just head to Thailand a bit earlier!

Have a look at this link.  http://www.krabiflight.com/krabi-rai-lay-bay.php

Rai Le beach is near Krabi and is accessible only by boat.  It is a spectacular place, and when I was last there (about 10yrs ago) you could stay anywhere from a thatched bungalow on the beach (basic, but cheap) to a 5 star resort hidden amongst the palms.  If you want a laid back, beach based holiday, it is great.  You can take a long tailed boat to nearby Ao Nang to get amongst the normal Thai shopping and bars scene if you want.  Alternatively, you can stay at Ao Nang and boat around to Rai Le for a day trip.  The scenery in these bays is fantastic, with tall limestone cliffs similar to Phi Phi and other islands in the Phuket area.  (Rai Le is across the gulf from Phuket, so similar scenery).

Went to Koh Samui back in

Went to Koh Samui back in '02 and it was fantastic. As Wade says there are quiet spots but really the only busy spot was the main drag of Chaweng. The restaurants and bars along the beach are great...cheap too. We also caught the ferry across to Koh Phanang (i think) and it was a lot smaller, less busy and cheaper again... I would go back thats for sure!

Hi Ya,

Go to Greece.

My son has just got back from 2.5 weeks there as his honeymoon and reckons it is the second best place he has been in the world.  People very friendly good sights.  Spent time in Athens, Mikinos and some other island starting with S (probably lots but that's all I can remember).  Also reckons Emirates is the best airline he has been on too.

Queenstown NZ is he preereed spot for number 1.

Cheers.
