thanks again seabreeze!!!!!!!!!!!!!NOT!!!!!!

did anyone else go far offshore on Saturday?? we went out of mindarie in the "fresh" easterly of about 15/18 knots which is fine in my boat and were expecting the winds to drop throughout the morning to lunchtime to the predicted 10 knots or so  then increase back to 15, well as per usual with seabreezes forecast by 8.00 we were 18 mile out and it started to blow about 400 knots!!!(i estimate 35/40) and the sea got ugly real quick!! anyway after a marathon voyage back in at about 8 knots into some very steep 2.5/3 m wind waves we got back in without even 1 drop on the fish!! SEABREEZE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!   CHEERS

and one other thing how  can it be in 2011 with the amount of weather monitoring stations around the country that the forecasts are notoriously so bad?? it amazes me!!  cheers

Ryan - bit of a trap for young punters, seabreeze only gives pretty much onshore conditions, as do most others, so if you sat on the back of the threee mile you would of had a nice day. Pretty much if forecast is 18knots east or north east inshore stay in bed and leave later or fish in close. Got trapped by the same thing last thursday and we were out in 400m. Luckily it did drop off enough to flog it back in just before the southerly belted up but my chiropractor earnt his $$.

I dont trust any of the reports

Mon, 2011-05-09 08:10

They have got better over the years, but you as a sailor have to read the conditions on the sea, not the forecast. Also look at various sites. I use Williewheater, BOM, a secret site (they will kill me if its mentioned) but mostly up in Dampier  you go out, look at the conditions, use the forecast as a guide and then make your decision.

I am in a Ali boat and I dont like a bashing.

We dont have Seabreeze up here, but from my recollection it is for Windsurfing, Kites and surfers rather than boaties, and it does focus therefor on inshore.

JMO.

Same

Mon, 2011-05-09 08:39

Same here. Went out to the FAD's on Thursday in my 6m glass thinking that the wind would drop off mid morning. No such luck. The FAD's seemed a bit dead and then caught two undersze dhueys and two black arse. At least the wind went NW for the ride back in late arvo (spent most of the day finding new ground and having a drop here and there, but the drift was pretty quick).

I noticed the same thing on Thursday so I stayed inside the 3 mile till it dropped off, but I'm in a smaller boat than you guys. No website predicted the NE and NW winds the day before

Well...

Mon, 2011-05-09 13:13

at the end of the day guys it's a FORECAST not a 100% guarantee of what the weather will do. Most of us by now have been skunked by various forecasts and your better off using multiple forecasts from different websites and BOM. Being a surfer it's bloody frustrating when it says the swell will be 4m and it ends up being 2 or visa versa.

As a few have said Seabreeze is for Windsurfers and Surfers for inshore conditions, hardly a reliable resource for 40nm out.

Unfortunatly we havn't got much better so just get on the water and if it looks shit out there it probably is

Check

Mon, 2011-05-09 14:14

As a rule wouldnt you check several weather forecasts before deciding what you are doing. Seabreeze is only making assumptions based on the information it has. Thus make your own assumptions using several sites.

Do that but last thursday

Mon, 2011-05-09 17:07

Do that but last thursday pretty much every forecast was from good to OK, certainly not from shite to more shite. Trip out was about what was forecast, 10-13knots ENE, but the predicted drop off actually went from 13-25 not 13-8. ANyhoo had fun winding in 500m of PE6 by hand a few times. Leading on to my next post.

Yes we got flogged out past the FADS. Cold and wet. At one stage our tuna tower nearly touched the water with my mate in it. He came down shortly after. We were rewarded with a heap of Dollies and a few bruises.

there all the same

Mon, 2011-05-09 22:57

there usually isnt much if any difference between any of those websites and I have noticed they mostly update after the BOM has updated theres, I just prepare to fish in close for small stuff and if the weather isnt I dont head out, but in a small ally a bit of chop can make it quite uncomfortable
