Gee those flies seem to die quite slowly when you spray them with fly spray.... Poor little f*&ers, best we ban fly spray and stipulate fly swatters only, don't start me on the ant powder....
Oh and are they lobsters or crayfish, better not discriminate and use the incorrect name. Wouldn't want to hurt their feelings....

We watch David Attenborough and all marvel at the documentaries he narrates. We watch Tigers and Lions maul there prey to death and even at times leave the victim alive so the cubs can learn to kill. We see chimps bashing other chimps and eating their rivals young, yet we all are in awe of the wild nature. Should we be killing the tigers and lions because they are cruel to their prey?
The loonies will not be happy until we are all vegetarians! But hey, hasn't there been studies that prove that plants have emotions???

Used to have some respect for the RSPCA but over the last few years it seems they have been taken over by fuckwit activists that push their radical unrealistic ideas down everyones throat. Maybe its time to have their government funding cut off as I don't see why my hard earned tax should pay for these dichheads to steal oxygen.

In a series of studies, British scientists studied 20 rainbow trout fish. They looked for pain receptors, exposed the fish to heat, injected their lips with various chemicals, and recorded brain activity while this was all going on. They were able to show four results, which when you put them all together, do suggest that fish feel pain.
In general, you would think that it would be essential for an animal to be able to feel pain. The memory of the unpleasant sensation would make them keep away from immediate sources of injury. In the long run, this would help them live longer.
The first thing that the scientists showed in their study of the 20 volunteer trout, was that they each had each had some 58 specialised receptors on their head. Some of these receptors responded to just one stimulus, while others responded to a bunch of stimuli.
In humans, receptors that pick up heat and mechanical pressure are identified as being pain receptors. So in the rainbow trout, 22 of the 58 receptors could be counted as pain receptors. In fact, under the microscope, these receptors look virtually identical to the corresponding human receptors. They also had very similar mechanical and thermal thresholds. These fish receptors send signals to the fish brain via nerves.
So the rainbow trout have the complete "neuro-apparatus" and wiring needed to experience pain.
Second, the scientists gave the fish various nasty stimuli to their lips - and of course, they had a control set of fish that they did not give nasty stimuli to. The fish having a bad time increased their heart rate by up to 30%. They also massively increased the rate at which they beat their gills. However, these reactions could be a simple reflex. It doesn't have to mean that their brains felt pain.
Third, the scientists saw that many of the fish had abnormal reactions, after they had been injured.
Some of the fish took on a "rocking" behaviour, which people who have been through a close encounter with death will often do. (If you look closely at TV footage of the survivors of train accidents, earthquakes, etc, you will see some of them with their arms clasped to their chest, rocking back and forth.) Some of the fish refused to feed for a long time after the injury. Other fish rubbed their lips in the gravel of their tank, something they would normally never do.
So, the fish had post-traumatic stress reactions. Some of these were almost identical to human post-traumatic stress reactions (eg., rocking, not eating). Some reactions were the fish equivalent (eg, rubbing lips in gravel is their equivalent of us using our hands to rub our sore lips.)
The final test also suggested that trout can feel pain.
Dr. Sneddon first injected various nasty chemicals into the lips of rainbow trout. As expected, they showed various kinds of abnormal behaviour and distress.
Then she gave them a pain killer, morphine. The fish behaviour returned to normal.
So to sum up, these rainbow trout had all the necessary receptors and wiring to react to nasty stimuli. When hit with a nasty stimulus, they did what we would do - pulled away, and then later showed abnormal behaviour. And finally, when given a pain killer, their abnormal behaviour went away.
Putting the evidence together, it seems fairly likely that fish (at least, rainbow trout) do feel pain.

Just what is the answer then, stop fishing with hooks, use electo fishing methods. use nets to catch fish. it is a very complex situation that there is no quick or easy answer too it.

.Trout are a very evolved fish that have skin and small limbs attaching their fins.Perch have not changed in 3 million years cos they dont have to
.To do studies on trout and claim all fish are that way is incorrect research,Perhaps tuna and billfish have receptors,mulies and anchovy dont
.Is it really that hard to put your crays on ice or in the freezer prior to boiling they squeal for a long time and I find it traumatic.At Hamlin bay when I was a teenager I saw jumbos still trying to get out after 30 seconds or more when being boiled alive in a half 44 drum by some locals and they just kept pushing them back in with a stick and laughing.Crabs and marron die instantly for some reason

i ask peeps to think beyond the ''how hard is it '' argument to just ice your crays before cooking
thing is if we accept that they feel pain and then move or equate to to a human type emotion ? which is the cruelest method ?? boiled alive , drowned ?? or frozen to death in a freezer or ice slurry ??
and what if we take the idea that different fish feel different levels of pain ?? dow e then accept that we must ensure or apply differnt levels of rules to how we catch , cook or dispatch each type ?? would we like that as law ? with criminal outcome if we break the law on that ??
i certainly do not and i cant believe we need to legislate to make it a criminal offence ...
our population imo need to wake up and start thinking about the direction we are allowing our society to go ........ there will be a hard push back at some point in the future as a correction is in need imo

Yep I'm surprised RSPCA hasn't mentioned live baiting yet, I dare say they're unaware of it.
I know many fisherman keen to dispatch their catch in the most humane way possible, but then they'll throw a live bait on their hook.

They recomend cooking marron and yabbies live . Could be wrong. Sure I read it somewhere:) anyway ice slurry way to go on crays and crabs. Drowning takes to long. Imagine drowning a marron or yabbie lol be waiting few weeks for oxygen to get out of water.
