three mile off mindarie

hi guys,
just thought i'd ask if anyone has any advice as such when diving out around the three mile off mindarie? We have done about 10 dives or so now which have all been around the first reef (up and down the coast - eg, furthest has been just before elignton rock) though we now plan to head out and dive a little deeper along the three mile.
Most of our dives so far have been up to 12-13m so with our next dives we plan to try around the 16-18m mark.
I know it's bit of a vague question though thought i would ask to see if any local "mindarie" divers have any feedback/advice when diving these areas.
cheers all,
Wayne

Wayne - There is line of
Wayne - There is line of pots there at the moment. The dive depending on how close you are to the reef will be in 10-21m, gentle slope. The stretch has lumps but less swim thrus then the first reef, but the crays should be in about now or real soon.
Dive there first the come in closer for the second dive.
We are diving with MDA this Sunday, the 11.30am dive. Wanna join us?

23m ledge
Mostly dived the 23m ledge off mindarie which is a cool dive that i'd reccomend its 18m on the flat reef on top of the ledge and is piss easy to find on your sounder and anchor on in an easterly, we've dived behind staggies too in around 12-18m. usually i've found on the 3 mile from north of staggies south to about little island there is a decent drop off that runs the whole lenght the reef sits at 14-15m then the ledge drops off down to sand and bommies at 18-19m. Thats where we've usually dived and its great scenery but in my expirience i have always found that particular ledge very scarce of crays even when they're in close probably coz it gets the full force of the swell/surge.

cheers reefmonkey - so
cheers reefmonkey - so without asking for a co-ordinate:) if we anchor just north of the most visible break at staggies (eg, on the ocean side) then we should be in a half decent area? or do you think we should anchor east side of staggies (well north of staggies break) then swim west up n over where the three mile lumps up?
btw, was just looking at http://www.mindive.com/divesites.htm - i have entered most of these co-ordinates in my gps though they don't appear to be over anything special - one guy told be that the last digit of these marks is incorrect? I assume the "23 Metre ledge" mark on this page is the ledge you are talking about?
btw - r u heading out this weekend?

We usually
We usually just find the top of the reef point west and watch the sounder if u start in about 10m point west should go to about 15m or so then it should suddenly drop to 18m thats prob the best way find the drop off, mark it, then say for example its an easterly wind, anchor to the east get the anchor to hold and then feed out your anchor rope till your over your mark and drop straight down onto the ledge.I probably wouldn't anchor in the area around the breaks if ya wanna dive in 18m coz the drop off would be around 100m or more to the west of where the waves breaks if ya don't find a decent drop move 100m north or south and try again.
Last year wen the pots came back in the pro's dropped their pots right on the ledge so if they've done the same again it'll be easy as to find.
Yea the 23m ledge is the same one off the site i used the co-ords to find it but it was a while ago i can't remember how accurate it was but it got us there. the bottom is actually shallower(18m) on the ocean side with the deeper water towards the coast(east) so if you approach the mark from the east start watching ur sounder for about the last 50meter to the mark you should be above sand at 23m keep going west then all of u sudden a straight up ledge sticks out clears as dogs balls 5m high the reef is a strip about 30m wide running north-south on the west side u have sand at 18m on the east side its a straight drop to sand at 23m. if u hit the mark and still in 23m keep pointing west coz its there
Takin a mate out saturday but he doesn't dive.. bugga... so we'll go for a troll up and down the three mile, sunday me n jacaui will head out but so far seabreeze is saying strong easterlies so we'll prob keep it close to shore
