Tinnie in Coral bay hire or buy?
Submitted by Josh on Sat, 2021-02-27 08:16
I'm heading to Coral bay warroora station for a week before Easter with the camper trailer.
I'm tossing up buying a tinnie and taking it on the camper vs hire one when up there.
Pros of buying:
- can use on any day
- can customise
- sell after trip to get money back
- don't have to drive into CB to collect/return
Pros of hire:
- don't need to risk not being able to sell it after
- would be larger and reliable
- no transfer fees
What are your thoughts?

Aren't the coral bay hire
Aren't the coral bay hire boats actually from exmouth? So you'd need to add a delivery charge onto that as well.
I don't think beach launching is too easy at warroora. Not the places I've seen anyway. You would really want a lightweight car topper easy to carry up and down the beach.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

So we had this delimma last
So we had this delimma last year and opted to buy a 3.3m soft floor inflatable and 9.9hp outboard.
All up, less than 3 grand where the boat hire was going to be 1900 for a week + delivery + 2x 80km drive to the drop off location.
We are taking the boat north again this year and it will pay for itself this year, in the second trip.
I don't think you would have any issues selling a tinny in the market today

How did you go with the 9.8
How did you go with the 9.8 and the soft floor getting out to the reef for a fish?

We had a 5 and did 5.4 knots
We had a 5 and did 5.4 knots when hurtling out of control down a wave in 15 knots of wind....we did 8 miles that day on 8l of fuel
I only got the 9.8 a month back, we tested it a fortnight ago and can get 15 knots out of it with two adults or 11 knots with fat adults (me and the brother in law). The boat can take 15hp.

For what it's worth, we have
For what it's worth, we have since picked up a $6k quintrex dory. Have taken it on four trips and fished out of it 20 odd days in 12 months including Exmouth, Kalbarri, port Gregory, Cervantes, dunsborough and duke of Orleans. Have also used it at home when I didn't want to take the bigger boat.
I went halves in the inflatable with my brother in law and he takes it every so often too.

I would buy one. There would
I would buy one. There would be plenty out there that would do the job you want . You may end up keeping it In the end . Not realy a huge amount to out lay . Better than hiring one in my opinion
