Absolutley superb day on the water today, took the dinghy around 6 kms out and got some decent fish. None of the fish are huge but still made for a good day out with
my young fellas.
All fish were legal size, snapper was 52cm. My first decent Breaksea and Harlequin.
Caught a few othe Breaksea that were size but put them back.
Sambo was given to the mother in law. (did the right thing and filleted it for her) lol
Had 4 bustoffs from what I think was sambos, might have to re-spool with something heavier than 20LB.
Harlequin made a superb meal.
Love to hear how others went Today.

Sambo comes up alright too, under-rated when small and treated properly IMO

trick with sambo
is to bleed them and bury them in ice immediately. (Tip courtesy Al Bevan).

Hey All,
Had the mother and law call me to say the Sambo was good, big tick lol!!!
Hey Callum 24 I also fished the 5 fathom, fished near some Cray pots for the Breaksea, Had some
huge bustoffs at the same spot. Caught the Harlequin and snapper at drift in approx 20-25mtrs.
The Sambo was caught within 1km off the shore, caught another just undersize at the same spot and
my son had a huge run that burnt him aswell.

I'm wondering if that is a sambo, something is just not looking right. The eye and the forehead dont seem right, almost as if its some sort of other seriola (but not an AJ) or some kind of trev related thing. Might be the angle, but just looks unusual (like the more pointed mouth). Any other shots a bit more square on?

Sorry only photo taken, as you said looks different in the photo due to the angle but I am pretty
certain it's a Sambo, we have caught a few others at the same spot over the last few weeks.
The fish looks a little discoloured as it was the first fish kept for the day and sat in
the esky for around 4 hours!!!
