today's progress - bait table / tank
Submitted by randall df223 on Sat, 2015-03-07 16:41
While you bastards were out fishing today.....
I was working on my new bait table / live bait tank
made some progress. cutout made and saw inside for the first time and fitted the cutting board lid on that side. drilled the mounting holes.
tomorrow will see the fixed cutting board fitted and if I can find the right size hole saws, I'll get to work on the cutting board drain, bung, overflow outlets and other plumbing.
excited how it is coming together.

hey randall how many litres
hey randall how many litres do you think it holds?, what do you reckon the extra weight will do to the ride when full?
are you going to fit some sort of rubber seal to the nylon board to help prevent sloshing water coming out through the lid

I think it is about 40
I think it is about 40 litres??? and by my calculations the pump should pump about that much in 90 seconds.
I have previously had a 60 litre bin on the back deck working as a live bait tank and it hasn't made much difference, perhaps only that initial "get up on the plane" moment.
I am going to try it without a seal. The retaining strap holds the lid quite tightly and there will be a drain on the board (middle / back, at the ally level) so I reckon any leakage will drain away out the back. If it proves to be an issue I will get a thin strip of seal from bunnings.

You must be a left hander
Having the knife facing that way. Setup looks good.

I'm not actually. I was
I'm not actually. I was thinking I would have it down the side to suit a right hander but there wasn't quite enough room. It had to go on that way so any water will drain from the sheath. The knife will probably stry on the table most of the time. just stow it while underway.

I would have made the cutting
I would have made the cutting board the whole length and glued the ali cutout section to the back of the board to act as a plug and removed the rubber latch as it will get in the way then filleting fish. What about a drain for the board ?

I decided on a split board
I decided on a split board primarily because others on board, including she who must be obeyed still use cut bait. so rather have to move bait every time I wanted access to the tank I thought I would provide a permanent bait area. There will be a drain. putting that in today.

Looks good. Defintely not
Looks good. Defintely not picking but will your bait juices leach into your livewell? That seal would sort it anyway if it does. Im trying to get a compact version of yours into my little tub.

No photos yet but I pretty
No photos yet but I pretty much have it ready for painting. ( hoping to strike a contra deal with a mate who loves going to the footy for which I have tickets...)
finished cutting all the holes for the various drains, bungs, overflows, and inlets. trimmed the fixed cutting board to size. drilled the top of the tank so the board is ready to be fixed.
fitted onto the boat! Yay!
now sitting back having a beer, contemplating putting everything back together for photos....
