Todays session at the 3 mile reef

hey every one went for a quick fish at the 3 mile today launched from hillarys. anchored and burlied up in 9 meters using mulies. caught a couple small pinkies heaps of port jackson sharks they were like blowies and a couple of skippy. i got the king george on a hole mulie.all the fish were released as im not a fish eater, and also just wondering wat the other fish is some type of cod or something. if any body knows that would be great. cheeers.

Nice KG. I'd release that one if I caught it..... right to the esky. Sounds like a fair bit of action out there on the water.
The fish is a harlequin cod. Certainly some nice colours on them, and some very sharp teeth. Not bad on the chew if you were keen on eating fish.

great catch and my next question may show my lack of understanding of the demersal rules :-(
-but does harliquin fall under demersal?
i remember a sim question last year about some guy getting caught by fisheries??

Definitely a Harequin and definitely NOT allowed to be kept

Nothing wrong has been done it's a case of C & R, fish was released he was asking for an ID

Two great fish mate. Unfortunately the harlequin cant be kept until the reopening of the fishing closure. the harlequin is very tasty and would be very much welcomed in my eski. Ive been fishing from my boat for 6 years now and have only captured 2 harlequins, so as far as im concerned its a pretty rare capture in 9mtrs. Infact ive caught more dhuies, baldies, snapper and breaksea cod.
