Toll roads for WA

 *Warning - bitch session*

Today I read in the West some government "think tank consultant" has come up with the concept that toll roads should be introduced in Western Australia.

Apparently its to encourage the usage of public transport in Western Australia.

Where in the bloody hell do they get these idiots from?

For starters, the state government might wish to get the rail infrastructure car parks big enough so people dont have to drive 3 stations to get a spot so they use it more. There simply isnt enough carraiges or parking f#%#$^^t!  Laughing

This is simply another state tax on top of the dramatically rising boat regos etc.

The rate the family expendable income is being depreciated in this country is disgusting.

By the way think f@$#@#$@$ "flunk tank" we do buy petrol with tax on tax.

I thought the State Labour government was bad. The Liberal government is turning out be a bunch of money grabbing whores too.

When the GST was introduced states taxes were meant to be dropped so the state government takes the GST handed to them and puts up every licence and utility they can just for the pig trough.

So potentially you will pay a road toll of $10 before you get to the boat ramp money box.

If family incomes keep depreciating at the current rate with rising state services there wont be an economy because you have all of it.

Get some bigger train station car parks and some carraiges and people might actually manage to fit in one of them.

Another money grab by the state!. Flunk tank idiot! Tongue out

Doesn't nearly every other major city in the world have toll roads, which are self funding to provide better facilities?  I guess thats why we have no night life, no real late night shopping and still stand for Wait Awhile??

Just putting an opposing perspective out there, if I lived in Perth I'd be strongly against.

Sydney has toll roads, but

Sydney has toll roads, but ours are much better.

Though, its a bit stupid to say its to 'encourage public transport' when our public transport system is not up to scratch as a suitable replacement.

Adam a lot of Sydneys tunnel

Thu, 2009-04-23 16:49

Adam a lot of Sydneys tunnel money goes to Macquarie Bank. NSW is still in the poo economically. It inhibits people wanting to go out, socialise and keep the economy going.

If people stay home and play their Playstation because they dont want to pay to go somewhere before they even get there the economy slows.

It pays to have a public transport system actually with the ability to accomodate the current usage let alone an increase demand before you get all excited about raping peoples pockets.

The current rail cant handle peak hour now. If it was actually a little more capable people might use it more.

In the mornings at times people have to wait 3 trains to get on.

When the mining boom was on the government was saying come over come over to WA. The knobbers didnt even have the infrastructure to handle the influx.

The roads have load more cars on them. The rail is packed and now they want taxpayers to pay more. Pure genius.

They should charge people $10 each way in and out of Exmouth thats what they should do Laughing

No to Toll Roads

Thu, 2009-04-23 17:02

We pay enough in Road Taxs, GST, Tax on our fuel (supposed to be used for roads,) to have the best roads in the world, but like all State/Federal monies (doesn't matter which government is in)  it all goes into the big swimming pool and not to where it is really needed or supposed to be used on roads/hospitals/schools etc.

Hi Ya,Yep, NSW has both

Fri, 2009-04-24 08:27

Hi Ya,

Yep, NSW has both tolls and some of the worst roads in Australia.  Yep, govts divert money from the source to other areas of minor interest to many of us (ie fuel taxes not used 100% to improve roads, taxes on tobacco not directed to health etc etc)

However, I was stunned recently to hear that much of the money raised to support the fire victims won't ever get to the victims.  Apparently, much of it will be used to rebuild public facilities like community halls etc.  Hang on, I thought we were giving to help the victims.  Surely the insurance carried by govt (at all levels) should be covering those things.  What a lot of humbug IMO.

Maybe I won't be so quick to donate next time.

Cheers.

Interesting...

I guess one thing to remember is that in society it takes community infrastructure to make a good society. Small communities spend a lot of their time raising money to build their communities and are very self-sustaining. In nortmal circumstances they rely on no one but themselves. All that work in the effected areas has gone.

Insurance should deal with most individuals although I agree that a lot were either not insured or grossly under insured. The same goes for small business etc.

The peole affected are always very resilient and as long as they have a supportive infrastructure around them they will regenerate like burned Jarra forrests I am sure.

IMO of course :)

Cheers, Vince
