Tow truck

Anyone one here towing a big boat with a truck e.g 3500kgs + ?

Any suggestions of small trucks to tow 4500kgs on a normal license under 4500GVM ?

Any suggestions for one that could be kitted up as a camper tow truck?

Is a F250 the way to go ?

Cheers Vinnie

While vins dealing with his irate missus about ripping open his good shirt, that 7700kg towing is a

5th wheeler setup, conventional towing there rated to about 5800kg.

The Perth dealer has one for a surprising affordable 134 k!

Yeh Tim thats more what i am after. But what is the towing capacity of a truck like this ? I have looked on all the websites and brochures. But they only have the GVM and GCM ratings.

Can i just take the GVM of the GCM to get max towing ?

Yes i know i should just ring the dealer. And i will tomorrow haha

Towing

Tue, 2014-05-20 20:27

Seems to be around 3.5 - 4t depending on model
http://www.isuzu.com.au/truck-range/crew-cab-models.aspx

Might have to watch max combined length of boat and trailer as well if you get something with a big tray or a long boat

I think you may have been out of the job for a bit to long, most unimogs are maintained by civis' and are a very old fleet.  Over here it is jlu west, sometimes the things sit there for months on end only being cranked up for a non tech.  Things are always shitting themselves on them.  That being said they are an excellent vehicle if well maintained, and a bush mechanic can still do a lot for them as the electronics are very basic.  I've been out for a while, but from what I understand, the entire fleet of rovers and mogs are in the process of being phased out, you might find a fair few up for sale soon.

Did you have a look at my bus vinesh? There are a few smaller ones that go for cheap , you just need to be there on the day when they are up for sale. If you are only going to use it as a tow vehicle they are fine. Mine is a bit extreme but we got it for a good price IMO.

Like any diesel vehicle these

Tue, 2014-05-20 23:11

Like any diesel vehicle these days, if it has a dpf, make sure that there is someone that makes a 'dpf eliminator' or youre destined for issues. My mate bought a brand spanka 3T Isuzu few years back. Towed his 28ft aly cc to exy, went into limp mode, dealership no help, flat to the floor back to Perth @ 70km/h. The dealer had it in and out of the shop for weeks, throwin parts at it (they didnt know how to fix it). In the end my mate made a 'false dpf' that tricked the ecu into thinking that there was an unblocked dpf in there (ecu requires pressure readings pre and post dpf),so no more worries. Also had to make ducting for the intercooler as it was mounted somewhere sideways behind heaps of shit, to improve the power but gave up on it and has sold it now and gone bigger (cant remember what he got). At the time he told me his mate worked where they had a fleet of those isuzus and all had the same issues

I would have thought a light crew cab 4WD tray truck would be the answer, plenty of second hand ones seem to pop up. Mainly Mitsubishis

Call

Wed, 2014-05-21 17:59

I would call the truck yards Vin as there might be an option you can add to them to up the towing capacity.
I would have thought these things could tow way more when you compare size etc to your jeep.
