Toyota Surf fuel leak help
Submitted by carnarvonite on Thu, 2011-09-22 17:16
I know its not fishing related but its my mates fishing vehicle.
It is a Toyota surf 2.4 non turbo diesel and has fuel dripping from behind the injector pump and running down towards the back of the pump.
Tried all the fittings and the allen key drain plug? plus the injector return line and all are tight. The higher the revs the bigger the leak.

Sounds like a reseal job
If its pre 1994 you may find the seals are Buna orings and they react to the low sulpher fuel some servos are peddaling. To reseal a rotory pump like that with Viton seals will be 300 to 600 bucks if you shop around Prescision diesels in Occonnor are a good mob to deal with. Hope this helps

If you are lucky it may be a cheap fix there is a plate on the inside of the pump towards the engine than can leak which is just an o ring or more likely its leaking around the back of the pump which is pump out and get it resealed cost around a grand , same thing happened to my old hilux i just ended up exchanging it for a recon pump which cost 1200 bux , not cheap

Yep the same issue on my old
Had the same issue on my old 88 hilux surf. Can't quite remember the exact fix but it along the lines of there is a spring in the injection pump that isn't a neccessity, the bloke removed the spring and fitted a plate over where it went and it stopped my leak. I lost the function that the spring did but it made no difference and it was a far cheaper fix than the $1200+ injector pump replacement/recon. This was done about 10 yrs ago by the Toyota bloke Rhodside Auto who was in Willetton, but i dont believe he is there anymore.

Did mine a month ago
You can get exchange pumps on ebay for 700 bucks but you still have to fit it and the pump has to be timed. Found a place in balcatta who did it for 1200 bucks Diesel injection services does a really good job. Cheapest other quote was 2 grand and they wanted the ute for 3 days balcatta guy did it all in one day.
