If i am right makes me
If i am right makes me curious as to who might want Patton, seems like a player that would fit at Hawthorn when the big Rang retires....
Get him cheap enough then perhaps they might consider....
Is WC going to have a play at Kelly?
If he stays at Geelong this year it makes his 2019 season interesting, backs it up and WC might be paying more, gets injured or finds it tough then they might not even want him....

Not for pick 20, 22 and next
Not for pick 20, 22 and next year's first round pick. Fuck me, he's their 5th midfielder who didn't have a man running with him all season. I reckon 20 and 22 is overs especially when you consider we are already adding Gaff, Shep and (possibly) NicNat to our premiership 22 and we could use one of those picks to grab Schloithe who beat Kelly is the Sandover in 2017.

My concern for Freo now
My concern for Freo now is....
The youngsters trying to compete in a depleted midfield with an ageing ruckman to get supply to Lobb and Hogan.....
The other concern for mine is are they wanting to go home and play football for ultimate success or is this just a going through the motions thing....
Play a bit of footy, get paid a shitload, party it up and go down that path many before them have done....
Its the best forward line argueably now the Dockers have ever had so kicking goals if they get supply shouldnt be an issue.....

Its been funny listening to the callers calling AFL trade radio from the Eagles, all with their backs up feeling so sorry for Kelly and hating on Geelong for the ground they are standing....
Would have been hilarious if he only wanted to goto the Dockers and then we would have had to listen to the shit the Eagles would have spun....

Peter Sumich...
Surely Peter Sumich would get the job , but only if every other possible coach in the league died unexpectedly... Worst option there could possibly be.. Logistics of Carrots, cabbages and other vegetables give Sumich a headache let alone trying to coach properly..
On a side note, the word on the street is that this whole Liam Ryan thing regarding his missus hitting the pavement outside the Kalbarri Motel at 4.30am last weekend is a real media beatup.
Liam Ryans girlfriend and the pavement outside the Kalbarri Motel are actually friends - they were playing golf together last week apparently, just waiting on Trevor Nisbett to confirm but he's pretty sure they are mates....

Kelly
Glad the Dockers didn't get Kelly, rather have at least 1 first round pick, he is a gun but only first year. Nice pickup with Colyer for some depth.
Also glad for the Eagles they didn't throw the kitchen sink at him, seriously they won the GF with this midfield and your going to add Gaff so it just wasn't worth it.
He'll be back to WC next year more than likely, don't change much when you win the flag surely..

Really sad to hear that Kelly will have to spend another year away from family because WC coudnt see past their noses....
Add a Geelong gun to the Gaff, Sheppard, Nic Nat to the premiers side and surely they'd be thinking back to back....
Perhaps they'd rather be a mediocre side for longer rather than have ultimate success...

Poor Kelly
"It was disappointing for Tim because he really wanted to be back in Perth" for family reasons but he wouldn't entertain going to the Dockers..
Dont blame anyone for having a first choice and really don't care if he came to Freo or not, but if he was really keen he would have taken a 3 year $500k ish deal with Freo.
The eagles players will be treating him like a cousin this season... The talk is just all crap, he just wanted to go to Eagles and who could blame him.

Bargain pick..
So who's the bargain pick of the trade period?
Im thinking Aaron Hall to North Melbourne for pick 68 a bit of a bargain, but also Scully to Hawks for a future 4th round pick is right up there..
Also reckon Dom Tyson to Roos for Pruess the second string ruck and pick 62 is good value. Reckon Norths did ok this year.

Forgot about young Scrimshaw/Rimjaw.. If he can turn it up under Clarko might prove why he was number 7 in 2016 draft and prove a cheapie indeed..
Still think Burton is destined to be a gold label dual position player but could end up a crab at Port...
Gold Coast must be a lock for 18th on the ladder next year.. If they weren't in a rugby state with the full financial
might of the afl at their disposal you would just fold em up now...
But traded all their good players out, will get some good youth this year but they will take years to develop, and still
Mickey Barlow can't get a game.. Stuey Dew destined to be turned over again in a year or so...

Finally got to see some news
Finally got to see some news today and saw Freo did really well, always been a fan of colyer.
WTF, Karl Langdon, who the hell is that muppet ? I had to look up who he was ! Came out bagging everyone.
Kelly just wanted the eagles, total bullshit in regards to family, anyone decent bloke would put family first and not make up crap and just move for their benefit.
Peter sumich has always been an assistant for a reason, so no from me to taking over from Ross next year.
And finally, Belly needs to piss off that stifiling, boring, arrogant coach.

Nope, Nada, never ever ever agree timboon, you can say it 15k times :-) haha ! I see your point but totally disagree, Ross is a dead set flog bag, he is the worst coach in the afl at the moment, by a long shot. Give him bloody 5 mill for all I care.
I actually thought Langdon was a carpet salesman, or pools or some shit, I just remember his ranga mug on tv ads.
I'm hoping belly ruffles quite a few feathers to be honest, Freo needs it, not just for the fans but the players as well.

Happy
Pretty Happy with the way the Eagles trade period tuned out. Kelly is a good player but in my opinion he wasn't worth what we offered so Im glad Geelong knocked it back. Now we have 2 picks in the 20's to pick up some young talent... Pick up Schloithe who beat Kelly in the Sandover haha.
Dockers did well. Fyfe will have a double shoulder reconstruction half way through the season carrying the midfield. No point getting A-Grade forwards when you cant get them the ball.
If Kelly was so desperate to come home he would have gone to Freo so I don't really feel sorry for him. What happens next year? Still have to trade for him? I don't know how the free agency, restricted free agency thing works after only 2 years on a list
Cheers

I said it in an earlier post
I said it in an earlier post that Kelly, as good as his first season was, is Geelong's 5th midfielder and didn't have a man all season and is 24 years old so his instant impact will be very close to his ceiling. He would have got off the leash at West Coast too and would have been the cherry on the top of a premiership midfield to still include Gaff and was worth a red hot crack and it was dissapointing that a deal couldn't be done but not crucial.
West Coast went hard and offered overs and Geelong wanted to bend us over even further so good on West Coast for not getting reemed and good on Geelong for not letting a player go who they believe will be a key ingredient them winning a flag in 2019. Not often you see the dog wag the tail these days in the AFL. I'd have rather we went hard at Jack Martin if we were looking at entertaining what Geelong wanted.
We filled the only need we have in a fill in ruckman and I'm pretty happy we're going into this supposed superdraft with picks 20 and 22 and we'll also pickup Jarad Cameron with one of our later picks under our academy. One of those picks may be worth using on a mature ager like a Schloithe who is a goal kicker with a strong mark and can crumb the ball and could play Lecca's high half forward role or Jai Bolton could be worth a look too but I've read he has 'defensive deficiencies ' in his game.
Anywho, we'll be adding Gaff, Shep and NicNat to a side that won the flag so guess I'll have to deal with the dissapointment of that

Jack when you say Kelly is their 5th midfielder how do you mean?
I'd nearly say he was there no. 1 mid this year, had a better season than Capt Joel, better than Duncan, Danger was played mostly fwd, Guthrie and Menegola were ok but not as good as Kelly...
I like the way you are trying to water him down and call it well done by WC but the reality is he was worth more to Geelong than WC were prepared to give...
He may have to change his tune if he wants to get home next year and consider donning Purple...

That’s well done for WC to offer to take a broom handle but clenching the cheeks when Geelong brought out an unlubed axe handle. You will fail to find a post where I talked Kelly up and said he’d be worth our first rounder alone but you’re 100% correct though, in that he was worth more to Geelong than WC were prepared to give.

Lots of ifs and
Lots of ifs and buts....buuuuut......Reasonably happy with the Hawks trading. Scrimshaw has plenty of upside, just needs to find some confidence and form and have a good run and hopefully all the salty tears of the Hawks fans claiming they wont renew their memberships because Burton was moved on will dry up, as Scrimshaw is an athletic type with good hands
Scully was an outrageous steal for such a late pick. Of course there are worries over his ankle but the Hawks medical team is generally top notch and if he gets going, hot damn, that solves the hole that Brad Hill left in terms of sheer gut running and pace. He could be the sort of player that Isaac Smith needs alongside him again.
Though its probably overs for him, I've warmed to the Wingard deal. Clarko obviously rates Wingard (and has brought in plenty of Port players over the years...Guerra, Gilham, Dew, Burgoyne, Impey) very highly and if anyone can get someone so freakishly talented to perform on a consistent basis then it would be Clarko. A shame to lose Burton, as there is real potential there but after all, it is potential.
None of these players are complete answers to deficiencies at Hawthorn but they do go someways to help.

Shiel is a frontrunner mate,
Shiel is a frontrunner mate, have a look through his finals performances. He may as well change his name to Harold Holt on the teamsheet come finals. Cogs has proved time and time again that he is a big game performer from the ripe old age of 16.
Cogs played with JOM and Titch in the WA U18s state side so that could be the appeal if indeed it's true but my understanding is that he's pretty happy at GWS and will likely be their next Captain.

Partington and Olango are the
Partington and Olango are the ones that I didn't expect. Partington racks it up in the WAFL and kicks multiple goals regularly and Olango was picked up 12 months ago as a project ruckman.
Those who watch East Perth games say Partington only likes to run one way and butchers the ball. Seems as though Ainsworth/Petch has gone above him in the pecking order and Venables and Dugan should get more midfield time next season so I guess there's no use having him there clogging the list. Talking about list cloggers, how the feck is Fraser McInnes still on our list... the bloke is dead set hopeless.

More concerned with the delisting of Brady Grey. Bought a hard edge to every game he played, why would they delist him when Freo needs more of this ? Sheridan and Sutcliffe were to be expected really, but Grey is a concern. Hopefully Ross isnt starting a rebuild again already?!!

No shortage of tall timber now. Interesting move, might be a bit of insurance if Vardy or the fella from the Saints gets injured so we have two ruckmen at any time to play? Brooksby can go forward apparently and add some extra height too. Another tall for our small crumbing forwards to feed off perhaps?
Looking forward to next year.

Eagles swapped pick 17 ( Brodie Grundy ) for Sharrod Wellingham from memory with the Pies, hindsight is a wonderful thing Jacky boy...
I reckon you have one more year of trapping off before Freo start getting on top of the Eagles...
Next year is a pivotal year for WC imo, last year with Kennedy, Hurn and maybe even Nic Nat who will be 32 going into 2022 season, certainly good enough to challenge for a flag next year but the door might start to close losing those fellas above....
