Trailer mods and upgrades
Submitted by dodgy on Tue, 2016-08-02 10:53
Had some upgrades done to my trailer recently as it was well overdue for some love. Was not a drive on trailer but with the new additions it all works like a dream. Single handed launch and retrieve and beach launching is easy now.
Mate of mine did the upgrades. Is the 3rd he has done now. He is totally mobile and also has a workshop so if anyone is after any fab work I'm happy to pass the details on.

Looks the goods dodgy. What's with the dual wheels at the front, just two spares?

Yeah mate. 2 spares. Complete
Yeah mate. 2 spares. Complete with hubs so if I need them I know its a full set. Also makes it much easier for beach launching if I need to drop the trailer. just push the whole lot back and pull it out with a strap. Saves putting the cruiser in the salt.

Sorry to say BUT
I think it's illegal to have your spares in that position - Vertical on a hub. If the trailer comes unhitched then the trailer runs away with tyres front and rear regardless of breakaway. Be worth you getting a qualified opinion.

How is that possible if the
How is that possible if the breakaway brakes lock on and lock 4 wheels?
I have never heard that, nor did our local inspector (who has somewhat of a reputation) say anything about mine?
Not sure about Dodgys but mine cant touch the road anyhow when up, only when lowered for a beach launch

The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.

Interesting you say that. Do you know where you saw it? Nothing I could see on Dept of Transport site or Vehicle Standards Bulletin.

Just the standard winch.
Just the standard winch. Never needed a catch. Just drive up till its home and jump out to attach the chain and winch.

Looks good, I like the design
Looks good, I like the design with rails up close to the rollers like you have it.
I have a very old trailer similar minus the rails...bring it on and miss the first roller and you cant help but feel sorry for the old girl..
