OK, I assume you have the Navman 4500? The post market transducer I had fitted was the Airmar. We purchased our boat back in Dec 2005 and I have been told that later models of the 4500 were supplied with these tranducer units.

The 2005 year 4500 transducer was characterised by a rounder transom bracket, whereas the Airmar is more square. If it helps, I'll take a photo of it tomorrow and post it up.

I've also been informed by the folks that service my boat that any Navman retail stockist will be able to source the unit for you.

I had a PM from another forum member asking the same thing. He has the 4500 unit installed and the Airmar but doesn't get good readings at WOT (Wide Open Throttle), so be aware that changing to the Airmar, whilst expecting an improvement, may not be perfect as there are a number of other factors that contribute to the performance of a transducer. That is, where your tranducer is fitted, correct angle and so on...

What I will say is, my service center advised me that Navman had a lot of issues with the original 2005 and before transducer, which is why they sourced one from Airmar.

Hope that helps....

Fair point, and I suspect they do, but if you go to a Navman dealer and have a 4500 or similar alternative unit, I suspect that wouldn't be a problem. :)

Don't know if mine will fit your navman, it's off a Furuno, but the plug can be changed..  I moved up to a 1kw.

I am away at the moment but will be back soon.  Will post a pic then.

Glad you mentioned that, I have the same issue. Haven't worried about it because it doesn't affect the performance of the sounder. But it would be nice to remove that. In moving it up 1cm, did you find it attenuated anything?

sounder

Fri, 2008-09-12 19:48

No not that i can see so far. Have only just got the sounder a month ago ,off russ and sandy...still finding my feet with it.

Have got an eagle fish elite gps/sounder combo and just fitted the navman so i can just use the eagle as a plotter. Only trouble with the eagle is the wire for the tranducer and battery are joined in the same wire, so i cant just disconect the wire to the transducer so it dosnt interfere with the navman.

Also i have noticed the Navman tranducer makes a tick noise when its pinging..different to my eagle!....do you hear it on yours?

Cheers fishfinger!

That would make sense. My tubs FG and the units (I have the 5500 as well) are both flush mounted in the helm bulkhead, so that would explain things.
