Trim Tabs
Submitted by davidbland50 on Tue, 2013-10-15 21:20
Have just acquired a set of SLT10 Bennett trim tabs. Just wondering if anyone has installed these on their boats and what if any, opinions they have of them.
Thanks in advance.

have bennett tabs
Have bennett trim tabs on my tub . Not sure what model they are but they are quite big . Had the boat without the tabs for a number of years and should have got them years ago . Would not get a boat without tabs , they are worth the money

Bennett Trim Tabs
I have Bennett M120 trim tabs on my boat and they have been excellent. However, The SLT trim tabs operate in a different way to trim tabs that most people, including me, have. The SLT's are Self Levelling Tabs and are a relatively new Bennett product. They do not have a hydraulic or electric actuator and are therefore not manually adjustable. The actuator basically holds the trim tab down with a spring. As the water pressure under the tab increases (as the boat speeds up) the tab will retract. They are useful to assist with early planing in that they will reduce bow rise and enable the boat to plane at lower speeds. They are not particularly useful for correcting listing due to weight distribution, seas or wind.
If your boat is fibreglass be very careful with sealing the holes when installing the tab hinge and the actuator to the transom so that you don't get water into the transom core.

Thanks Old Tub,
As you can see though, they are being installed on the pod. However, as you recommended, they have been sealed with sikaflex where they mount in by screws. Can anyone tell me what chinewalking is?

Chinewalking is when the
Chinewalking is when the boat starts rolling from side to side.People with faster outboard ski boats will know all about it.I have only experienced it from about 50 MPH pus and usually with a fair bit of trim.
It is scary but once you learn to drive through it without shitting yourself the boat will gnerally settle down again as you get faster.

As crano said above though
As crano said above though you will not have that issue the Bertram hull would need a lot more hp to lift and sit up on a 24 degree deadrise especially with that big rounded v.
