Trip To False Entrance
hi guys,
Just got home from a 4 Day trip to False Entrance last night and thought i'd share some photos up, and how we went.
We went left on Sunday at 3am and arrived 12 hours later....the track is at its best atm, so we arrived alot sooner that we had expected, however with some heavy towing and an aging memory of the location (dads) took us a bit longer to our fishing destination.
In short, the trip was excellent...however as we prepared for our first fishing session we realised with had forgot the cliff gaff, my dad and i were pointing the blame at each other, i had all the gear...he just didnt pack properly (thats my version)
so we fished anyway that evening and landed a number of tailor...we could only land smallish ones around 2kg mark...anything bigger we couldnt lift up and would consequently lose....as our luck had it...we only caught big ones.
the night went on and we managed a couple of pink snapper (couldnt land), a few sharks - couldnt land either and a number of unstoppables.
we retired that night at around 10pm and put on our mcguyver hat on, i really should take photos of our makeshift gaft...it went something like this
5 10/0 jigging hooks tied togehter and a shackle attached....this should work...admiring our master piece we went to bed...
4am the next day...wake up...coffee..gear...and makeshift gaft...ready to fish...see photo 1...
it was low tide and fishing was a bit slow...until this big mackie grabbed my mates lure and went airborne...the fight was on....10mins of so later it was lying under the cliff a waiting to be gaffed...i dont know how long it took us to try...the idea worked...until u lifted it and the hook would just rip off the fish...#(@*$#(@*$#(@*@$#
we didnt want to fish anymore, becuase 1 - if we tried to land it i think we would just kill it...if we cut the line..thats $20 bucks gone...so breakfast time.
The trip was taking a downturn...and i was feeling quite sour...actually depressed.
Then comes roaring through the ranger...we paid our fees and told him..he just laughed...he wasnt sure when another group would be coming..he think it was in 2 days...bugger...but he had a spare gaff that we could borrow our buy...so our morale was high again...
Problem 2...FUEL...his campsite was over in steep point...which is about 2 hour trip there and back...we had 60l of fuel but that was for the generator (antique honda which uses 1 litre and hour)...and if we went we may not have enough fuel to get out...we had half a tank left..and that was enough for us to get back to the overlander.
so the plan was...put the spare fuel in the car go to steep point...get the gaff go back to the overlander...refuel and come back...will be in time for the afternoon session. ( i think its about 150km or so from false entrance to the overlander 2-2.5hour drive...one way)
wheels were in motion and soon enough my old man and i were on our way...ive never been to steep point before, but i now know why ppl love that place..it was beautiful.
anyhow, got the gaff...(thanks paul your awesome)
because we didnt have the camper trailer in tow, fuel consumption was a lot lower and we decided not to refuel and skimp out on the generator, turning it off at night.
so we made it back to the site, and 30mins later another group came...we spare gaff...hahaha...doesnt matter...better safe than sorry.
so we armed ourselves witht he fishing gear and went down to fish...1 hour passed nothing was landed...we had a few follows but thats was about it. A member from the the other group joins us, belts out a trebler...few winds..and he is on...WTF hahaha Jealous/envy level..would be a 11 out of 10. it was landed and a beauty...
shortly after my dad hooks up... see photo 2
then the next few days...was fishing fishing fishing..it wasnt 1 after another...but we definitly got our limits...and left with a big grin on our faces...
We caught a number of spanish mackers...the one my dad caught weighed in at 15kg, but i am pretty sure it was alot heavier that that.
all the macks were around that size, i didnt bring down the camera that much and didnt take many photos of the fish.
we caught and loss a fair number of spanish mackeral
some shark mackeral
and a tuna...it had yellow fins but cant decide wehther its a yellowfin or a long tail...
i'll let the photos do the talking now, since i think i've talked to much.
hahaha
