trolling rod

Hi all been fishing an area thats had tuna hanging around it a fair bit, not real big id say average around 600mm. Ive bought a t curve 5-10kg rod to throw some hard body lures out. Im keen on doing some trolling to and wondering if your better off having a dedicated rod for this set up with mono or if the t curve would be fine for both, havnt done much trolling so pritty green with it thanks

I've spent many hours
I've spent many hours (days....weeks....years.....lol )catching YFT up north.
When I go out chasing tuna I personally have dedicated trolling rods and reels for this on semi-outriggers.. I pretty well always take out a couple of dedicated stickbait rods as well.
nothing like seeing a YFT take a lure mid air.
trolling with the T. Curve will be absolutely fine but for ease....speed of change over.... (tuna can spook and dive quickly) I would recommend a dedicated outfit for each use.

I use the same rod for casting stickbaits/ trolling skirts for small tuna. You'll be fine as long as you don't run a hardbody with too much resistance, I'd recommend running a jellybean skirt (small pusher with a metal jet head) on it as you can go a bit quicker than with a diver and sometimes that's what's needed to get them to bite.

I was given a tip when
I was given a tip when chasing Tuna, never had the chance to test the theory.
I was told tuna will often feed into the wind, so if you find them busting up, take a wide berth and cut the engine up wind of them, and let them come to you.
If ya trolling, sounds like you may have braid. Use a longish shock leader, and make sure your drag is set correctly.

Thanks for the advise might rig up one of my old boat rods and keep a hard body or skirt lure on it. Next time I see them ill take note of wind direction cheers for the tip

600mm tuna will usually be feeding on small bait, your lure needs to match the hatch 99% of the time to get a hit i.e. small lure.

Cheers for the tips went and got a few skirt lures, bibed divers, stick baits, popers ect in small to mid sized coming on board with us next time just waiting for a day not at work and no wind... its like tryn to win lotto some times!
