Its a good practice ,,it feels my tummy up
I troll most of the time in some locations,,sometimes if i hit a hot patch i will stop and cast out and clean the patch up,,but its more excitement for me when they hit the rod trolling.

Hi shorty,
i tried it for the first time last weekend and caught a quick 8 and missed about 4 in the space of about 20 minutes.....i need to be quicker getting out of gear! Was having fun until the navy reminded us we were just inside the exclusion zone and escorted us out....! could have been worse......could have been a 50cal across the bow! hehe

Theres a very fine line on missing them,,if you are trolling a bit to fast you will pull the hooks on them,,i think sometimes its just the long feeler that gets hooked up,,i lost 4 in a row one day until i dropped some speed off,,
I troll from a kayak by the way,,walking pace is about right,,you can grid an area,,also you can follow the weed areas and it theres a fair bit of sand between you and the next weed patch,,just put peddle to the metal,,no need to pull the lines in though,,
Trollings great on flat calm windless days as well,,when you can't get a reasonable drift going,,
I beached on Garden island 2 weeks ago to fix a problem,,right under a no tresspassing or shooting over this land sign,,lol

i was trolling at about 2-3
i was trolling at about 2-3 knots in a stinky boat. I rescued a guy and girl in two kayaks about 3 months ago....in the middle of cockburn sound, 25knot wind and they were paddling to rockingham from woody point.........probably lucky i saw them cos there weren't to many other boats out that day.......we were heading in as it blew up........needless to say they were pretty grateful.
i remember when i use to water ski in the bay at garden island...it was great! But times change....

I would probally drop the
I would probally drop the bail arm fast then wack it out of gear,,might prevent the lost of any squid,,otherwise your forward speed plus the squid propelling themselves backwards might pull the lightly hooked ones off the jig,,,,,,,other wise turn hard right when the squid gets hooked,,this does the same thing,,,if its really big i peddle towards it,,
Trollings great fun eh
I will be trolling for snapper at the same time when the weather gets better,,it would be my luck that the snapper eats the squid on the jig,,instead of the Hard Body ,lol

I often troll squid over the weed beds up here and find that light drags and soft rods are the go, I also prefer mono for squid, if your trolling 2-3 knots jig sizes 3.5 to 4.0 should keep you in the zone in 2-4 mt, if your getting the occasional snag even better.

might give it a go today Mick
Have been sick a bloody week. Got dragged out by the boss about 4 yesterday but by then the forecast was wrong and we tucked into a lee on W Lewis. Pretty close to the rocks in 8m but NADA to speak off. Cods and sods. Had 1 squid jig and after 2 cast jagged it to the plug. Next time Ill take the box load because there def was some about the back of the boat.
