Hope it works for you this time. Nicotine is more addicive than some of the nasty illegal crap being peddled on our streets. Its a hard road but I am sure you will make it.

Took me 3 goes and this time has lasted 34 years.  My wife has gone cold turkey and so far 3 months .......

Good on you Pete, if I can advise you of one thing, There is no such thing as one cigarette. It's all or nothing.

Good Luck.

A good doctor.

Tue, 2016-10-25 08:03

Maybe find a good doctor who is genuinely concerned about your health to tell you, that if you don't give up you will die, dead, gone, never to see you family & loved ones ever again.
Never too late to give it up Peter, it's not good to watch a loved one deteriorate to nothing & die. So imagine how it would feel to be that person.
There are enough things in this world we have to contend with to stay alive, let alone possibly contributing to our own demise.
Hope this helps you decide and good luck with the quitting, hope it works for you and your beloved family....

E-Cigs

Tue, 2016-10-25 08:50

Pete, I wish you the best with giving up the ciggies mate.

Should it prove unsuccessful there is an alternative to returning to tobacco.
Remember it is nicotine you are addicted too, not tobacco. E-cigs will feed the need without a shed load of the harmful chemicals that cigarettes deliver, particularly the 2 worst components of baccy i.e. tar & carbon monoxide.

There is a multitude of independent scientific evidence around e-cigs and apart from the long term effects* it is essentially very positive when compared to traditional ciggies.
The main antagonists of e-cigs are government sponsored health departments and their primary concern is that e-cigs will encourage young, currently non smokers, to start the nicotine habit. They will not give an inch to the argument that older existing ciggarette addicts can improve their lot by switching to e-cigs.

*Unless you are young non smoker I don't see that as an issue when we already know the shocking long term effects of ciggies.

+1I kicked Cigarettes using

+1

I kicked Cigarettes using an E-Cig (A good setup) and haven't had a cigarette in 2.5 years

Even managed to have a cigar a few months back at a wedding and not feel I needed to chase the nicotine, but if I fell into that trap I know I could go back to E-Cigs and not kill the body

Nearly 2 yrs for me now, all thanks to Chris Raff.
Not sure if you've seen the doco I linked but in that when the guy who was at the forefront of getting smoking indoors banned in the USA did his experiment with the 2 vapours in the chamber, even he was quite amazed at the results and those 2 guys were advanced users running their mods at 95 & 110 watts, hence the clouds were huge. The doco presenter Michael Mosley's clouds are more indicative of the average user so the results of the aerosols being recorded would have been quartered if not more. The AMA needs to get it's head out of it's arse in regards to supporting existing long term smokers get off the ciggies.
