Tuesday metro jigging
With a list of fish to target we headed out from cockburn with what was looking like a superb day. And a good day it turned out to be. First on the list were tailor in wash around the islands. Metal slices were working and a bomber XT shallow diver produced the biggest fish.
Rumours are true. The larger sambos are in shallows. Had a 20kg/ plus fish cruise under the boat while we were targeting tailor.
We werent hanging around though and headed out for the 100meter barges. On arival we found very little activity on the sounder, Just a little flare right on the edges. On our second barge i christened the new fireblood 2500/ Hearty rise 1-3 on a solid skippy and then the sambos began to fire up. Landed around 6 or 7 fish ranging in size. All juveniles 2 to 6 kilos. On two occasions we had double hook ups. The bigger fish eluded us or just werent there.
We decided to pick up a feed of squid and whiting before heading in.
Gotta love Perth.
Anyways that was yesterday on the brine.

I have mixed success with various lures there, sometimes poppers will catch well other times its plastics/ slices/ wobblers/ bibbed lures and if all else fails ill cast mulies.

Na, their boat was much smaller than yours from what I see in the pics.
They seemed to be on pretty small tailor and by then the wind and rain were back up so we headed home.

Its a good little reef that Mewstones. Its taken me a number of trips, but I have it pretty well sussed out there (or at least I'd like to think so!). I have my sure fire lure and technique that has yet to fail me........
And yes, often if you sit off the reef and burley up you can get some good sambos out to play. Unfortunately there are also a few black tip reefies in there at times that are a lot less welcome sight.

There's been a number of big
There's been a number of big sambo's caught around the Mewstones over the last week. A mate got a ~20kg fish there Monday and one of the Myaree Bluewater guys appareently got a 40kg fish late last week (or week before)...
As for barges haven't seen any big sambo's at the barges for awhile - plenty of small fish.... Plenty of big skippy.

Was out on the monday looking for the sambos ,found good schoools but they weren't firing ( seems to be the way till late nov) but nice feed of mulloway and skippy. All on cheap Williamson jigs 200m plus

Casting at greenwater for
Casting at greenwater for tailor, jigging for skippy and sambos, then a bit of squidding and whiting fishing. Who says you cant have fun and a great feed during the bans
(cooked up a mixed seafood plate of tailor, whiting and squid, yum)
Hopefully some bigger sambos will start aggregating soon and test the gear a bit harder.

sounds like a fun day was had by uou guys, and yeah you dont need to chase the dhuies and so forth to have some fun. well done, one thing but you mentioned eating a few of the things you got but what about the sambo and skippy? they are edible too

Faulkners. Eating sambos and skippy, I have! But i choose to release them now.
I have heard with sambos theres a skill to knowing which and when to choose a keeper.
Ive been told while there spawing axhausted males are not good eating as well as slender fish are poor to. Robust and solid fish supposdly were good. Any thoughts?
