Have to jump in
I own the previous Diablo sniper 10000, a new Brawn 8000 and a Brawn 12000..
I have NEVER had a probem with mine and 1 of my best mates also owns them... and he loves his also...
Its EASY as to ring up Simon, the owner and have a yarn with him about anything.. he is always willing to give advice reg. these... obviously....
try and do that with any of the 'other' brand names... not knocking them either... as of those.. I have PLENTY!!!
Only thing I dont like really, is how easy the bail arm flips over... its a little too easy...just personal choice.... But I cant really fault the reels..
Completely sealed so they can handle being dropped in the ocean.. just hose it off and lube usual moving areas you should..
Take what you read online with a grain of salt.. you will always get 1 or 2 lemons in a batch... same goes for ANYTHING... shimano.. diawa.. cars... bbq's..
and these are what people will get online and post about...
All the rest of the posters, obviously fear what they dont know or understand.. and get on the band wagon bagging them out, having never even seen one in the flesh.
Simon is an aussie engineer.... just trying to work hard.. .do the right thing... create a good Aussie product.. I tip my hat off to him for having a go..
The EARLY model tuff tackle did have a few problems... however, these have long been sorted out!!!
In summary... I own 3 of them.. and cant wait for the smaller versions to be released so I can add to them!!!
I have NO affiliation with the company... Im not paid by them either... However.. Simon if you read this.... .. feel free to send me a freebie!!!

Mate...
Pricey.... let me ask you this....
Do you love your missus..... or what she can give you!!!!!
More the point.. I would rather back an aussie bloke having a crack... than send my money overseas!!!
The more product someone sells... the more he can put into making the product better.. which in turn means, he sells more, and we get a better product..
I wont waste my money on crap.... I cant afford that.. also cant afford to by a whole heap of stella's to cover all my bases...
These are a good reel for a good price.. And australian designed and made.... (for now anyway)

I had been reading on a U.S.
I had been reading on a U.S. forum that they were not happy with tuff boy and his toys.Did notice a few others from other countries come in unsatisfied .
Quote..
sounds like Tuff Tackle rubbed everyone up the wrong way - everywhere around the world!...even over here in Kiwiland! Those "mock" look alike saltiga Dogfights probably didnt help his cause in the first place!

The thing with these reels
The thing with these reels is that they are NOT Aussie designed or any of this other pfaff that's gets sprayed about the place. They are merely a Chinese knockoff that can be picked up for $80.
Have a read of this http://www.alanhawk.com/reviews/diab9.html

I purchased the XTA Diablo
I purchased the XTA Diablo Sniper 6000 in 2011 To be honest I have never got the chance to test it on a serious fish. I have seen the reel casings and spools sold in different stores around the world, usually for very low prices. Assume the reels internals are designed and cut in Vic with the externals being mass produced Chineese gear. I supose this is no problem if the internals are strong, smooth and water tight however from the looks of my reel aftyer washing I cant back it's claim to be water tight! far from it. Would be interesting to hear from someone who has tested it on big fish... Big GT's, Sambos, Tuna etc to see how the big figures on paper hold up in reality.
Its worth remembering that these are most likely part of the development for future reels like the Brawn series. Diawa and Shimano didnt come up with the Stella and Dogfight over night. Hopefully the Brawns which are suposedly fully Aussie Designed and cut are a big improvement.
Cheers

Brawn
I dont believe the Diablo is water sealed.. Only the brawn series...
Mine has landed Sambo's, mackerel and plenty of bottom feeders without a hiccup!!!
Only thing I havent landed yet (or hooked) is a big GT... Hmm might have to hit Garths Rock next break and knock that of the list!!
The Brawns are designed and built here in Oz.. Previous Diablo models werent.. You cant buy the Diablo's anymore only the Brawns..
I honestly dont understand why everyone keeps bagging these out? ESPECIALLY when 'most' of you are just going on hear say, without having used one..
You cant compare the new reel to the old.. completely different!! For the price, they are a great reel which CAN take a lot of punishment..
Forget about the EARLY Diablo series... unless 2nd hand.. you cant buy these anymore.. Only the Brawn series.. If you can get past the difference in how they look compared to other reels.... I think the reel IS a huge step up from from the previous versions..

Happy now..
I BUY & USE the reels, and therefore I feel I have a right to comment... thats all.... Most of you are just going on hear say..
One of my mates just bought a 2006 100 series toyota... It is a pile of crap.. nothing but problems... Do you think I would go out and rubbish toyota?
Read back through the online forums reg. shimano stella problems... a lot more than tuff tackle.... Why dont they cop a verbal flogging the same way?
Ever seen the movie called The Joneses... ... Watch it.. then take a good hard look at yourselves.. Certainly opened my eyes when I did..

Agreed
Well its a completely new designed reel.. Until proven that they do have issues, which at the moment they dont.. I believe they should be given the chance..
True... the early model had issues... I have 2 of the new Brawns and up til now.. I havent had any problems with them at all.. I fish EVERY break that Im home, so they do get used a lot.. My comments are based on the reels I have and use... not reels or rumours that Ive heard about..

Talk about confusing! I dont
Talk about confusing! I dont want this to turn into a shit fight........but really want to try and clear a few things up.
If the BRAWN series reels are truly crap Id like to know before purchasing one, so it would be really good to hear from people who have owned them. ( I have a mate who can break reels too)
So many people are baging them but I cant see many relevant comments.
It sounds to me Tuff Tackle used to sell a reel called the Diablo which did have some teething problems, wasnt Australian made, wasnt water tight, may have bee a cheap imported copy of other reels and the owner threatened sueing people for baging him. Apparently that reel isnt available any more any way.
What Im asking about is the Brawn series? I can only see one person who has said he owns one and he is saying they are great? Most other comments are regarding the owner, comparing it to Shimanos and Diawas which are in a different price catagorie altogether or slagging off at each other.
Can anyone honestly tell me if the BRAWN series are Australian designed/ built/ owned etc and tell me how you have PERSONALLY found them?
Cheers

A few engineering facts don’t
A few engineering facts don’t make sense
8000GT advertises38 KG of drag.
larger 10000 advertises 30 kg of drag.
yet larger 12000 advertises 25 kg of drag.
This explains that one size drag is being used in all 3 reels, now there’s some high engineering for you.
But they now are a bargain as prices have gone from $645 down to $345.Get in quick
I’d rather just spend $240 on a shimano stradic or a Fin-Nor reel and know i have a good proven reel

Carnarvonite
Hey Carnarvonite (John) If youre unfortunate enough to read this thread, let me know if you want to take my reels out for a workout... It may be beneficial to the group for another unbiased opinion on the new Brawn reels from someone who may actually get to use one..
Send me a PM if youre keen or have the time..
Fishramma... I also use and own stradic's, fin-nor 8500 and 9500... stella 10000, saltist's, and Penn 850 & 950 SSM , slammers also Shimano baitrunners plus a heap more...
So I can honestly the Brawn stacks up against them bar the Stella for cast distance.. Off a boat different story.. Id rather the Brawn over the stella..
Have you felt how much slop is in a fin-nor reel? They are heavy and fairly strong... but their internals have been known to 'explode' due to being made from cast materials instead of machined..
But that hasnt happened yet to mine.... I better be careful here.. starting to sound like you lot!!!

I did witness a guy using a Brawn stopping some pretty good size sharks from Canarvon jetty. He also showed me photos of some bigger models he caught from the Broome jetty a week beforehand with the same reel. I can't comment on the longevity, but the drag was locked up and it performed well under the pressure.

Interesting
Interesting that he finally admitted the Diablo was made in China. He had carried on for god knows how long about how it was superior to Saltigas and Stellas and made in Aus. Finally had to bite the bullet and admit the truth.
Then he does a few minor mods to the drag to get around laws and calls them assembled in Aus. Load of wank.
If he had just pushed them as another reasonably priced alternative reel everyone would have had no problem with him and even backed him. He had to push a load of BS instead to try get sales while rippin people off.

Anyhow.... thats the past.... the Brawn is a new reel.... actually made in Oz... Lets judge the Brawn on its own merits... and not compare it to the earlier debarcle being the Diablo..

mate bought one
my mate bought a reel different name i think same reel as tuff tackle. I gave him shit about it being cheap shit he paid $150 on ebay. yet the reel held up on some big sharks and macks cobia etc last trip up north so dont think they're too bad just mass produced chinese reels.

Hey Dooma, how are your reels holding up?
It seems that Simon has pulled the pin on Tuff Tackle after it was proven once again that his reels were Chinese crap not Australian designed and made as claimed.
Might be an idea to retire one of them so you'll have some parts fo the other.....
