Two rocks
Submitted by Mark-GSOC on Tue, 2017-05-23 10:22
Hi all. I'm planning of launching out of two rocks marina soon, are there any hazards such as hard to see reefs that I should know about or is it well signed? Also if anyone could point me in the right direction regarding the best spots in around that area and what they're catching that'd be great. I've only just got my boat so offshore fishing is new to me. Thanks

Be very careful heading out of two rocks marina
if the swell is more than 1.5 -2m. More than 2 metres and it actually breaks at the marina entrance and can be dangerous even there if you don't expect it. Follow the lead line out to the end then head at least west or better northwest out about 30-35km in 40m+ water and find some rough ground. I use big baits of squid and fillets plenty of Dhuies (a lot will be undersize) head out deeper if quiet in the 40's good luck

Thanks. So just pick a flat
Thanks. So just pick a flat day and in regards to reefs its ok? I've got a 6.4m fibreglass so it can handle some swell but being fibreglass the reefs worry me.

Tworocks Info
Hi Mark,
The shop owner Ryan Thipthorp and us staff fish Tworrocks alot and it does have plenty of ground out from there. As mentioned swell 2m and under is safer and more comfiotable but more to the point the fishing for dhufish etc isnt the best when the swell is pumping and the water stired up.
There is some shallow reef like Gretel but as mentioned follow the lead line/markers etc on your plotter and all good. Fishing SW or NW we prefer and the depths of 38-42m our favourite. If the fishing is quiet inside the outside edge of the bank ie 60-90m is good also. We use jigs only and get our bag limit that way but if baits your prference then Qualy squid and Local ocky is the go. Last but not least there's alot of good fish on the smaller structure so zoom into the bottowm part of the water column to see smaller structure and fish etc. Ps the big structure can produce but it does get hamerred.
Good luck

If you find some fish & structure on your sounder, take a selection of these jigs with our adice on hour to work them (the key) you should do well.

Reefs
As others have said, watch out for Gretel reef if you are heading out on the leads and if heading north from the marina watch for Mapp and Malley reefs. They are above water level at low tide and can trap those who don't have knowledge of them

Reefs
Mapp and Malley reefs are shallow as Carnarvonite said. It's approximately 2NM N/NW from the Marina enterence and yes on your plotter. Heading due NW or SW is safe however always look at your plotter, your sounder, for craypots and take your time until you get confident.

Thanks again, good advice. I will be taking my time. I've just bought my boat and run it in around Cockburn and Swan river but it's time to chase some decent fish.
