Two Rocks Beach Access

I saw this mentioned on another forum. It seems like yet another kick in the groin to the 4wding/fishing community.

I believe there is still access through Wilbinga Grove off Wanneroo Road, but that would make for a pretty long trip just to get down to the beach for a fish.

http://www.wanneroo.wa.gov.au/Planning/Temporary_Closure_of_Dewars_Beach_Access_Track

Temporary Closure of Dewars Beach Access Track
  • The Dewars Beach access track at the end of Damepattie Drive in Two Rocks has been temporarily closed from the morning of Friday 21 March 2014.
  • A number of different barriers have been installed to restrict access and signage has also been installed to notify of the closure.
  • Council will consider the ongoing closure of the track at its forthcoming meeting. The key reason for the closure of the track is the high risk of serious vehicle collisions, not only on the track itself but also on the beach.
  • With a growing local population and an increasing numbers of families now using these beaches for swimming, four-wheel-driving can simply not continue.
  • The community is advised to use alternative locations such as 'The Spot" off Two Rocks Road for surfing.
  • Off roaders should use only approved off road vehicle sites. The City's Rangers can provide brochures to show where these are or refer to the off-road vehicles information on the City of Wanneroo website.
  • City Rangers and police will be in the area on a regular basis and adopt a zero-tolerance approach to anyone caught breaking the law, which prohibits driving on City beaches.
  • The City is also working with adjoining landowners and developers to ensure that other potential access areas are monitored, and to educate drivers on the laws relating to 4WD access on beaches.
  • Brochures containing information about legal off-road driving and vehicles are available from the City of Wanneroo Civic Centre, 25 Dundebar Rd and are also available on the City of Wanneroo website's off-road vehicles information page.

The reasoning is this point here:

  • The City is also working with adjoining landowners and developers to ensure that other potential access areas are monitored, and to educate drivers on the laws relating to 4WD access on beaches.

Just like with Alkimos the land developers don't want 4x4ing on the beach and it'll just keep happening as Perth spreads up and down the coast until a Friday or Saturday night beach fish turns into a weekend get-away due to travel time

It's Bullshit and it doesn't have to be this way but they see it as the easy option and it's un-australian

It's things like this I hope to see Partys like Shooters & Fishers and Outdoor rec etc push to squash and reopen spots closer to home for all of us.

Saying that we as the fishing/hunting community need to show we're clean & responsible to strengthen the argument

On going

Thu, 2014-03-27 15:19

Its been on going for years, even before I left Two Rocks about ten years back they would position boulders on the track entrances during the day only to come back next morning and find them dragged out of the way.

Trouble is its not just the fishing fraternity that goes up there, add the 4x4 clubs, surfers to Dewars beach, and everyone who wants to put their hubs in and go off road. Then you could go up to Flat Rocks and not see a soul all day but would expect its like St George's terrace now.
All they are doing is covering themselves in case someone has a prang and sues them

what a shame for the vast majority

+1 paul G. And that is why everything is getting shutdown. Not because of the responsible 4wders that are out there but the idiotrednecks that think they are in the baja rally and drive like idiots! The minority that screw it do it and everyone pays! Very sad and wont be long before it happens up this way because the redneck patrol come up to lucky and do the same! My advice is if you see a dickhead on the beach or teacks record it on yr phone take their rego and dob the little shits in! I deel sorry for you responsible 4wders down there because you have nowhere to go becsuse of the actions of a few!!

Why can't they get a ranger to do a patrol of the tracks and beaches over a couple of long weekends specifically to catch the rednecks and let the word get out that if you don't behave responsibly there is a good chance that you will get pinged and fined heaps. This quite an easy thing to do and only the rednecks pay the cost of being stupid.

Yep saw it coming a while back , when I contacted the shire reguaring some off road issues , and was put through to a

welll meaning, but no common sense  office jockey , pen pusher , with no idea of how to manage what is a great asset to the shire.

His idea was ,  we are providing a offroad area ( pinjar) so why in earth would anyone want to go 4wdriving around a beach area.

umm because I would like to camp a night with my kids and have a fish and a few brews to escape the bloody rat race.

Silence , but we providing a offroad area at pinjar, oh I give up.

How long before wilbingas gone? , tims , white hills and Prestons got to be on there radar , so It will be then wedge or northwards or the south coast ( scott river road)

I agree that It just doesnt have to be this way, the local govt and others are litagation obsessed, all to the communitys detrament, and these buggers are just simply killing our

way of life ( a healthy one) for us and future generations , shame on you wanneroo shire , shame.

Got work on tues night( startn 7 nights , ) but if theres a petition going , sign me up.

Quadfishers angels

Thu, 2014-03-27 20:57

Hey guys, quadfishers daughter here! Me and my younger sister have been going down this particular area for 17 years and we think its absolutley ridiculous that because of selfish reaons the shire want to shut it off. We go to this area to relax and have a good time with our doggie charlie and think that other kids in future wont have this opportunity to have this experience.

When in the past when family problems have unforunatley arisen, having this place to have a day full of joy and being in nature makes it more then just a beach. My generation of people have already got so far connected from the simple joys of life and being at one with nature because of boredem, technology and the influences of drugs and alcohol and shutting off access to these areas just compounds these problems for young people.

So please fill in then petition as sometime in the future i want to be able to take my children to areas like this and experience simple things like beach camping and fishing.

Thankyou, Samantha 17 and Georgia 14 :)

Signage

Fri, 2014-03-28 10:58

One of the concerns is the safety of the track for all users. The council is concern about the width of the track, the crests and bends. Why not just put up some signage warning users and even have a speed limit for all users incluiding quad and trail bikes.

There were 2 deaths/drownings at Claytons beach. Did they close it no they put up warning signs

Near drownings at Abalonetime at Yanchep lagoon. Again did they close it to abolone fisherman for safety reasons. NO

When was the last time there was a serious accident on any 4WD tracks?

The main reason for the condition of the track is that is now the only one we can use following the closure of all the track between Quinns and Yanchep.

There is a meeting at 10am on Sunday at Salacia by the Sea at Two rocks to discduss the upcomming council meeting on Tuesday.

Fri, 2014-03-28 11:50

With the speeds involved in 4wding it seems hard to imagine any crash being much worse than a small fender bender. If they put keep left signs at the top of each crest wouldn't that solve their problems?

The council says they are worried about families swimming near where people are driving on the beach, however they don't mention that the only way to get your family to the beach is by 4wd. Their actions are to stop people using the beach entirely.

Marina north

Fri, 2014-03-28 12:32

Not much chance of driving fast along the section of beach from the marina wall north to the point inside Map and Malley reefs because its usually narrow and very soft, north of the point isn't much better.

Its the idiots who have no idea and have the bit between their teeth trying to get around as fast as possible with no regard to anyone else's safety.

Council meeting last night

Wed, 2014-04-02 11:02

Wanneroo council meeting was held last night to vote on recommendations made regarding the track. It was estimated that over 300 people attended.

Unfortunately no decision was made as councilors have requested 2 week postponement so they can get more information and consult with stakeholders before making a decision.

So we will be back on the 15th April to see what the decision is.

Went up there today and there were two council vehicles blocking access further than dewars access....had to go all the way to wilbilga to get onto the beach for a fish. It's crap, if they were really after safety then the tracks would have signage saying no further, but i have been up there about 20 times with no hint that it wasn't ok to go further than dewars. Another win for the squeaky wheels retired in two rocks.

 Anyone know whether access

Sat, 2016-01-30 19:11

Anyone know whether access from damepatti drive has been opened again since being closed on 18th Dec last year?
