Under floor kill tank installation for an ally boat
Hi Crew
I have a 4.75 Quintrex runabout that the floor has gone a bit spongey on and broken in one place and I was looking to repair it myself. In the meantime I came to the realisation that I could also fit an underfloor kill tank at the same time it would free up a bit of deck space becasue I wont need a 100l esky on board.
At this stage I dont think I will undertake the job myself due to time constraints
has anyone done this? Or got any recommendations for doing it? the positioniong of it is also crucial in a small boat.
I think the actual kill tank needs to be made of aluminium and then a smooth transition into the marine ply deck.
If anyone knows/recommends any boat shops that do this sort of work I would like to get a few quotes NOR or SOR as I am pretty central
Cheers

I have on my Trailcraft, I'll chuck you some pics later if you like in a couple of days if you like?
I just cut a hole, put in a 50x50 ally angle and sat a 70 litre esky flush into the floor. Then made up a strong fibreglass/ply insulated lid.
If you are going to do it at least insulate it, far more useful!
Was easier though because it went into the removeable patch around the fuel tank.

Make it so lid locks down and
Make it so lid locks down and is water tight, that way the foam you are displacing from under the floor is replaced with a sealed box that still provides boyancy (in the case of the unlikely event if being submerged)
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

the MOST convenient plan, is
the MOST convenient plan, is to do as you say, make an ally box in the floor, and make it the right size to take (say) a 70L icebox that you can lift out. Dont need to worry about drains and on shore at the filleting table just lift out to fillet and clean

You won't have the depth to fit a 70 ice box in there. Trust me I've done it on my boat.

nah
Nah thats for sure, how deep are these 70l eskies your fitting under the floor Rob?
I already have an underfloor fuel; tank 70l and I reckon the kill tank can be a pretty similar size if not bigger. hopefully wide enough for a mackie
cheers for the feed back and pm's I look forward to seeing the pics Rob and Sea Kem

Sea kem i reckon is right,
Sea kem i reckon is right, mine was a 5.8 trailcraft. I just fitted my icebox in the floor and plumbed it to the killtank. But in hindsight best way would have been as i described. Sorry itll be a couple of days before pics, sitting in airport waiting to fly to perth for a couple of days.
